Featured Replies

Hi all any tips for fitting them i've been trying to fit mine since 2 o clock and still no joy help much appreciated cheers bob

First off. How are you trying to fit them?

Should have read the how to guides first!

I didnt on mine and ended up leaving the car in a jack for a few days.

I asume your only problem is fitting the bush into thw console?

Give us more info on where your at on the job and what part your stuck on.

Yeah putting the new bush in got the old one out and wishbone off.but just cant get the bush pressed in.

What are you using to press it in?

And more to the point - which bush are you pressing in? OEM, or uprated?

My tip for the day is washing up liquid. Bloody brilliant at lubing up for pressing in - and once hosed down, no slipping that oil would do.

You need a vice to push them in if you can get the console out (bigger job)

Or

You need some threaded bar about 25cm maybe? some big thick washers and some 13mm nuts to fit the bar. Put the new bush on the bar, big washers/plates one at the console side and one on the bush. Tighten the nuts at each side and it should pull the bush into place. This is what i do and have done on a few customers cars now.

Or

Get split polly pushes and they just push in quite easy. Cost alot more tho.

Remember to match the nipple on bush up to the nipple on the console. N/S should be nipple at 12 and o/s should be at 6 iirc

Good luck.

Cheers ta cant get console off as its part of the sub frame. Will try the plate idea if i can find a washer big enough ta.

Another good tip before you actually install the bushes into the consoles, is to spray some silicone based 'Mr Sheen' or similar into the bushes and onto the wishbone spigot, put the bush on the floor facing upwards and push the spigot in and out of the bush a couple of times. This helps to lubricate all the surfaces.

Install the bush into the console, re-spray inside the bush and wishbone spigot and you will find the wishbone will insert into the bush quite easily, it may need tapping in with a mallet to fully seat home.

Good luck.

DB.

Ive always fitted them no problem, done about 10 sets maybe. Aslong as the prep work is done they go in fine.

I always use some rough sand paper on the console before applying any lubricants. You will see loads of white dust coming from the console. Get some lighter wet and dry paper and get the console all clean and smooth before trying to fit the new bush.

You can also get the proper grease to help aid in fitting them but imo some normal grease will do the job fine.

Oh no no no. Skoda stipulate that no lubricant is to be used. the bush is required to be an interferance fit into the console.

I find it much quicker and easier to remove the console. Bush can be knocked out quite easily

Then fitted back in with a vice.
