My car's handbook (Octvavia 1.6FSI 2006) says the car should be run on 98RON but it can run on 95RON. I've had the car since new. When I first filled up I used 95RON but found the engine to be a big sluggish. I switched to Shell 99RON (Optimax as it was and now V Power and which I understand cleans engines) and used it no problems since. Today I have found that my local Shell garage is closing down at the end of the week to be replaced by a BP garage. My nearest Shell garage will then be over 10 miles away across a Town that I don't normally travel through. My question therefore is what is my nearest equivalent in terms of the other brands. In my area I will have besides the BP garage a Texaco and a Sainsburys and I sometimes go by a Tesco or Asda.

When it had behaved itself, my 2006 vRS used to get a tank of Tesco 98 RON sometimes. Most of the time it ran fine on 95 though! And yes I DID feel a difference in the performance, but if it had always been filled with 98 I would have definitely lost my licence by now.

Tesco Momentum FTW

Think Tesco momentum is 99 Ron - most other 'super unleaded' fuels are 98 and some are 97 IIRC. Not sure what Ron v power is, but BP 'ultimate unleaded' is 98

Just had a peak online to check what Ron v-power is and the v power wiki (yeah, I know, wiki but I can't be bothered to research properly) says:

"In the United Kingdom and Denmark (where Super Unleaded must be a minimum of 97 RON), V-Power has a rating of 99 RON (whereas V-Powers' predecessor Shell Optimax was rated at 98 RON). There is one other 99 RON fuel available in the UK, namely Tesco MOMENTUM99."

Tesco 99 for me too.

My TFSi ran almost exclusively on Tesco 99, with the occasional £20 or so of BP ultimate.

Although my VRS can run on 95 octane, I only put Tesco Momentum in, no point running a car with a reasonably rapid engine on basic fuel - bit pointless as far as I'm concerned.... Did the same with my Impreza STI (which I has before getting the VRS) - the better the fuel, the better the engine runs.

If you have a Tesco near you - use their momentum super unleaded - you won't regret it...

Mine runs fine on quality 95 but since I don't have access to to easily it's Tesco 99RON most of the time.

Doesn't like supermarket 95.
