Pot holes and wheel balance weights

Featured Replies

They don't go together.

I've just changed onto winters ( no its not an excuse to discuss them so leave it ) :)

I've been cleaning the alloys ready for storage and noticed that most of the balance weights on the inside edge of the wheels have either slipped off the adhesive pads or fallen off completely!

The wheels have never been off the car or new tyres fitted so I know the adhesive residue isn't because of the wheels being balanced.

Haven't noticed and vibration issues either, which is a bit odd.

Anyone else had the same?

Not recently but I have lost weights in the past.

Went through a spate of wheel weights "falling" off causing vibration - although on one ocassion I think it was because they hadn't actually been put on!

Never had this issue before when using the older clip type wheel weights (those which are hammered onto the rim) - only with the adhesive ones.

When I have tyres changed, I stand over the technician to make sure they are applied well.

You could if you wish get the wheels balanced with 'Ceramic Wheel balance beads',in the tyres, as used on Off Roaders, Motor Cycles etc.

or if tight like me,with BB's.

Maybe not quite the thing for a Yeti,

but worth it if its getting used off road where the stick on weights might get lost.

Good stick on weights should not really come off,

but weights on the edge of steel wheels might well.
