I am planning on giving the car a service in Feb, but until then I need to give the oil a little top up. I haven't had the car long and don't have a clue what oil is in there at the moment.

Looking on the Halfords website (easy to pop to after work, plus got a trade card).

Putting in my reg, it gives me a choice of oils, 5W30 and 0W40, from different manufacturers, Castrol, Mobil1 and Halfords.

I am going to get a 1 litre top up bottle, was thinking of just the cheapest one (usually get the best discount from Halfords brand on TC).

Which do I go for? Does it really matter for such a short amount of time? Can you mix with what is already in there?

Yes simple questions, but better to be safe than sorry (plus only used to Ford engines, which you could near enough throw owt in).

Do you have a home bargains nearby? Castrol edge 5w30 is 6-8 quid (cant remember the price)

I would go with 5w30 (Castrol Edge usually)

Halfords brand oil is manufactured by Comma, a reputable oil manufacturer.

EDIT: Ahh, but from 2005. Mines a 54 plate Mk1.

Cheaper buying proper vw/skoda oil from the dealer, last time I got the complete oil service kit it came to under 30 quid lol

I went to my local dealer and they wanted £50 for the 5w30 Quantum long life stuff (gold bottle).

Got it off ebay for £30 delivered.

Just make sure any oil you buy on ebay is genuine and from a reputable dealer. A lot of fake oil is sold on ebay, and most don't realise it. Just google fake engine oil ebay and read.

Any oil that conforms to 507.00 is good for the octy 1.8t think 504.00 is good too.

I got 20l can from tps last month for £51 lol thats 5 services on the fabia with whats left in the 5l bottles i got.

Filters are cheap would be good to get a new sump plug each time too on a service or at least every 2.
