FINDING THE RIGHT POWER STEERING PUMP

Featured Replies

Hi all, this is my first post but i've scanned this site for a few months and it's been very handy indeed.

I've got the dreaded PAS pump issue which i have read a lot about. I've got a little 2003 Fabia 2003 1.2 classic which has been intermittently displaying the PAS light, on one occasion the steering was slightly heavier but it's off at the minute. I've had it scanned and the result was a loss of signal to the pump which the garage (friend at a VW main dealer) said was the pump.

He has given me the part number of 6R0423156b after giving him the VRM. He said the price for a new genuine one is £750 or £250 from Euro Car Parts with mine in exchange. However when considering a cheaper second hand option they all seem to be part numbers starting 6Q. Has the 6R units replaced the 6Q ones without the insulation problem? Will the 6Q part be the right one?

Thanks in advance.

The information you have beeen given is right, the 6Q pump was dropped in 2008 and replaced with the 6R unit.you will also need a new mounting bracket 6R0-423-845, about £32.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Many thanks for the prompt reply, think i'll take a chance on a later 6Q one rather than pay the price for a new 6R one, the £32 for the bracket has helped make my decision.
