Thinking of a change!

Featured Replies

Hello all

I'm a bit of an outlaw as I own a mk1 VRS octavia however I drove our works superb estate 4x4 diesel and I cannot believe how good it was handling especially (I really threw it around) and this has got me thinking! would i be willing to ditch the petrol?

Can you get the easily remapped for a little bit more power? That would pretty much seal the deal!

easy 210 bhp from amd tuning purfleet essex, cost £400.

Very tempted now

Are there any restrictions with upping the power / torque on 170 BHP cars fitted with DSG gearboxes?

I'm thinking of having mine 'seen to', but just a little worried out how much spare capacity for extra torque there is in the gearbox. I've had 1.9 diesels upped quite signiificantly in the past, but these have all had manual gearboxes (and never a problem).

Any views / experiences?

These companies that remap the engine management operating systems in cars, are very good they know what the tolerances are that they can work with, and it was explained to me from the Guy from Spires who tuned my 2008 Jaguar XF 2.7Ltr Diesel. that the cars are set up to work across different tolerances of fuel some from countries who have lower standard or quality of fuel, but we in the UK have a very high quality of fuel standards, so they can tweak the tolerances and tweek turbo's without any increased damage to the engines..

I have asked "SHARK" about doing my new CR170 and seemingly SKODA have put some restrictions on the programming or Remapping on this model and current microprocessors, and the computer has to be removed Remapped on their work bench and then replaced, it seemingly is just a minor inconvenience instead of an easy connection and Remap from the driver’s seat in minutes that has been done in the past on the older models...

The VW documentation states that the torque limit of the DSG gearbox is 350nm which is what the Skoda brochure indicates is the norm for the 170 CR Diesell and 3.6 V6 at peak.

There are many blogs on this site regarding upgrades and I cannot remember seeing any that have had any issues following an upgrade.

Being a cautious guy I stopped short of having my V6 remapped because although the torque was delivered at lower rpm (which is what I was looking for) the standard upgrade also increased peak torque by 20-25 nm.

Yeah I have got a re map done via post on my current octavia VRS and its amazing even compared to custom ones but with some thing a bit more valuable I think I'd go AMD as they are just down the road

6-speed DSG starts to self-limit at 400Nm anyway. The gearbox either contains a torque sensor, or accepts the calculated torque output from the engine (the engine calculates it from fuelling and other parameters) and if it gets too high signals the engine to reduce torque in the same way that the ASR can reduce torque.

I suppose a re-mapper could get the engine to ignore this signal but you can see it in the measuring blocks of the gearbox (from memory it's called torque limit and is usually a negative value).

So lets say they build in a 20% safety margin?!?(if that gearbox is not used in more powerful audis etc) the plus 25-35 nm should be well within those safety margins

Not with standing I'd quite like the manual anyway but if the right came at the right price!

Anyway where's my copy of autotrader
