Quick exhaust question.

Featured Replies

At the moment my octy vrs has the FK cat back exhaust on. I'm gonna put a 3inch decat and down pipe on soon.

Is it going to be loud?

I didn't notice much deference in noise level going from standard to the fk the sound changed a lot but not any louder.

1.8t engines are never generally silly loud unless it is a sewer pipe. the decat and downpipe make it sound more uneven, (like an older engine) you can kind of hear each fire a little clearer if that makes sense. it reduces backpressure so spooling and overrun is a little louder too.

Is overrun backfiring? Wouldn't mind some of that lol.

It can be.

shouldn't normally though unless really hot and driving like you stole it.

Thanks I only ask as my local exhaust place said it was gonna be stupid load as in astra vxr with boy racer exhaust on.

ive got an ebay downpipe and decat with a non res cat milltek cat back and cruising you can hear just a little rumble . put your foot down and you hear it clear as day but its not deafing in the car and you can still talk to each other without shouting . i love mine only problem with the decat it puts the CEL light on .

I had this talk on here all ready the last time I was gonna put a decat on. Most people don't get a cell but there is a few that do. Its just luck I guess.

Knowing my luck it'll put every light on the dash on lol.

First line of silencing on a 1.8T is called the "turbocharger", Really; it takes heat and speed, and hence noise energy, out of the exhaust gases.
