Glove Box Light

Featured Replies

Recently had the light cover off in the glove box to see what light it uses and I then put the cover back on.

Driving to my parents yesterday - Pulled up outside noticed a light beaming down in the passengers foot well the light doesn't switch off no more!! - I must have a good battery as it must of been on all night.

Whilst I work out why it is now staying on I have removed the light to save my battery from draining in this weather, does anyone know what actually cuts power to the light when shutting the glove-box?

In other cars when the door is closed it pressed a button which shuts off the light but it would appear this isn't the case in a fabia.

iirc the light does go off when you shut the glovebox, reckon you must have put it back incorrectly..... Learnt this when I removed the whole lot installing my double din

What part cuts the power though? I did notice a spring on the light cover?

Skoda really don't leave much cable to play with - Cant even pull it out 2 inch!

Yeah it is a pita!

In all honesty I can't check as stuck in bed for the next few weeks but I'll see if I can hunt out the thread I did and see if i mention it! (Sorry the best I can do)

Just been out to have a look and play with my glovebox. It would seem to me that there is some piece of plastic on the glovebox lid that must break a contact spring attached to the light assembly as you close the lid if you get my drift?

That spring is attached to a little black plastic lever. When lid is closed this is pushed up and breaks contact. Hopefully yours is still in one piece as its stupidly complicated to re-assemble as the spring likes to make a break for freedom! I think you have to align this lever before re attaching lid. Hard to explain but easy to see how it works if you look at the side of glovebox once it's unscrewed.

Yeah I can see the spring and a black bit of plastic. Will have a go later however my patience for things like this aren't great so I might just live without a light! :)

The light has a black lever on the bottom, when the glove box is closed the black lever is pushed which breaks the contact and turns off the light, which you should be able to see in the pics below.
