Reversing sensors & tow bar

Featured Replies

I had what I was led to believe were genuine Skoda reversing sensors dealer fitted. I am now wanting a tow bar to be fitted, and I am wanting to know if the sensors can be turned off when the trailers electrics are plugged in

If so how is this achieved, and does it have to be done at a dealer, as all the dealers I spoke to did not know, and it appears Skoda no longer supplies towing electrics for the mark I octavias

I am starting to pull my hair out over the above.

Thanks.

Surely you can just rig a switch on the buzzer or take the fuse out when your towing?

When it comes to cars and electrics they are not my strong point. One of the tow bar fitters doubted the quality of a Skoda dealers workmanship and said they did not want to put a switch in, as in the past they have done this and the wiring has fell apart.

Looks like theirs a black box near the lock and wires then run to reverse light and then to another box behind the left hand side panel. Not sure if the reversing sensors would be on a separate fuse due to the foregoing .

I have the loom that I listed above fitted to my VRS, which has a Westfalia removable towbar and parking sensors. Once the appropriate VCDS code is put in the system, it all functions fine.

Thanks did you fit the tow bar yourself, if not where did you get it fitted.

Fitted the bar with my son, not a big job really, this may answer some of your queries :-

Many thanks, just got find a tow bar fitted that can do this. Looks like my reversing sensors have been fitted correctly after all having look at the diagram you provided in an earlier post.

Still have got this resolved

Not sure now if my genuine Skoda accessory ones have a wire going to the ecu.

Will probably go for dedicated trailer electrics even an extra £100 and may not turn off sensors

I would just put normal towbar elcetrics on with a bypass relay as apparently standard wiring carn't handle extra pull from towbar electrics if wired directly to light circuits,

I would just put a switch in feed wire from reverse lights to sensor box and just switch them off when towing,

Oh and as said above towbars are a doddle to fit, hardest bits getting bumper off

I'd just disable the damned sensors altogether. Don't need no stinking reverse alarms with my tow bar. :giggle::blush:
