Caddy Wheel Trims & Bolt Torque

Featured Replies

I have now swapped my 17" alloys & summer tyres for 16" Caddy steel wheels with Nokian winter tyres of appropriate profile. The latter have been very successful over the last two winters. I would like to fit some covers over the exposed wheel nuts to the winter wheels.

Can you please confirm that VW Part No. 2K06011699B9 is the correct part? Does this fit over the locking wheel nut also? (My skoda dealer cannot supply these despite them also having a VW franchise close by!)

I am using the bolts that attach the alloy wheels - is this OK? Can anyone please confirm the correct torque settings for the alloy wheels and the steel wheels please?

It does fit over the locking nut as well as standard nuts. I seem to recall that it will also fit over the nuts which also have the silver plasic covers on but I have not tried this Sorry can't find invoice for part no. They really look the part - particularly with my Storm Blue body :0)

Yes, you have the part number correct - although the "9B9" at the end doesn't seem to be strictly necessary and might stop Google finding some of the web sites which mention the part.

The Caddy centre caps will fit over the locking wheel nut, though they don't clip in place on it (they do on the other four, so the centre cap won't go walkies). They don't fit over the plastic wheel nut covers, you need to keep those stashed somewhere safe over the winter.

Hi survey,

Yes, I used my original alloy wheel bolts, (I guess that should be ok for VAG steel wheels). The torque setting is 120nM and the tyre pressure is 0.2 bar above standard pressure.

You could of course go for the "mininmalist" or has been reffered to as "utilitarian" look - see pictures..,

Thanks for this and to the other guys for their prompt responses.

Is the wheel nut torque the same for both alloys and steel, as I had always understood that alloys should not be as tight as steel?

Hi CFB, Yes they are VAG parts: Drain plugs off the front apron of golfs built between 1983 and 1992 part No. N90220501. I'm supprised you did not know! :giggle:

It's the same. Look in the handbook under "wheel bolts".

(Contrary to what is implied in that section, the same wheel bolts are used for alloys and steelies. This has been confirmed by The Plumber, and other Briskoda contributors with access to VAG technical docs.)

Didn't even think anything would be available.

Good to know just in case.

But I have too much time on my hands so enjoy the challenge of the DIY approach :)

I have now fitted the wheel trims; seem a good tight fit as they have small tabs to locate behind the wheel nuts. My question now is - how easy are these to remove without damaging the locating tabs?

The Flat trims are removed by inserting the small hook supplied as part of the Yeti tool "kit" in one of the holes & giving it a gentle pull, but I don't know about the "Spider" trims.

Johann - one for you to answer I think, as you have the "spider" trims.

These don't fit over the locking wheel nuts. I bought a set last week from Bickerton's and ended up speaking to the parts manager, who confirmed they do not clear the locking wheel nuts.

i ran a set of these on steel wheels last winter and they stay on no problem, they don`t `click` over the locking wheel nut but they do on the other 4 and work just fine.

lots of other people on here have them too.

They do not clip onto the 4 locking wheel nuts but they do clear them and stay clipped on the other 16 wheel nuts - for 4000miles in my case.

Can anyone give any guidance as to how best to remove these trims without causing damage?

As Speedport said use the hook tool in the tool kit anywhere and just pull. Come off easily enough without damaging anything.

Are you referring to the spider trims here, or are you confusing with the flat trims?

Confused??

I refer to my many other posts about the Caddy trims I have fitted.

In that case, thanks very much. Just worried that I may damage the trims when trying to remove them!

The Caddy trims are quite tough. Quite possibly 'run over tough'. More so than RIF trims anyway.

At £7 approx they are not expensive.

If worried about fitting these over the locking wheel nut, just buy four ordinary nuts to replace the locking nuts...

I am quite surprised that my DIY jobbies have stayed put.

They've now done approx 1k miles on some rough roads and through a bit of deepish water and are still there rock solid. :)

Very pleased with my efforts.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I'm having problems fitting the caddy trims. Reading the above the trim should just click on over the bolts, but not in my case. Firstly they are the dome shaped caddy trims rather than the T5 trims since they are 5x112 bolting pattern.

I have removed the locking wheel bolt to make sure that wasn't the problem, but the trim just doesn't seem to click into place. It seems to be held of due to the outer diameter of the trim touching the wheel before the retention feature has clicked over the shoulder of the bolts. Even when I really push it won't engage. I have removed a bolt from the wheel and pushed it into the trim (off the car) and it cleanly engages so that all seems in order.

The wheel are skoda 7J steel wheels. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks.
