LMFAO - Cliff, you do make me chuckle! lol!

Funnyas****.

The sad thing is I'm sure there are people who can not take a decision about whether to venture out or not unless they are informed by a higher power.

Hopefully those people will listen to you and hide under their tables lessening the risks for the rest of us.

Got to laugh at these bits on the news sometimes; 'Don't travel unless it's absolutely essential', of course it's essential, I've run out of fags ffs!

When it comes to driving for my job, My company say I should always make a Risk Assessment, "Shall I drive in these circumstances---------or not" If it is snowing then I stay at home, still get paid though.

It's going to get to -16 so be warned

Winter's over by Thursday evening, so I'd just pull a few duvet days until then, rather than sell the car. I wonder how many people die in duvet related incidents?

Death by duvet ?

If this is French its death by a vet ? Many I think

Depends on who else is under the duvet with you.

You also saying Summer coming after Thursday? Woppee!

Accident stats for 1999:- "Duvet or eiderdown or quilted bedspread" 153 reported, estimated 2798 nationally!

Phew!!!! I better go back to Sheets and blankets then.

Another light flurry of snow is expected in the next 48 hours.

CODE RED!!!! AGHHHHHHH I going to tescos to stock up on canned food and firelighters! ARGHHHHH!!!

Gritter lorry s are wasting there time down here in the South. Nice warm 3 degrees :)

Dont go out and get grief. Go out crunch the car and it's your fault for taking the risk.

You can't win.

Shock horror, it's going to be cold in the winter time.............................

I very much doubt it, unless you live on top of Scottish mountain. :)

Still, good thing about the bad weather is that the roads in the South East are quieter.

If the Chavs and WAGS in the Disco Sports can avoid crashing on every corner we should be fine.

Welsh mountains are just as cold ;)

The last cold snap it was - 16 when I left Northamptonshire around 8am,and was still -12 when I reached Coventry about an hour later!

It was -15 here 12 months ago

Last night it was a relatively warm 7degrees, no ice about but was damp. Woke up this morning to go and help moving my grandparents to the new house. 8am the car was solid, doors were hard to open, my hill was lethal. Got to my grandparents and was the same but getting better. An hour later a freezing fog came in and was the same again. South Wales usually gets very little ice or snow since it's close to the coast. Only seen -2 so far this year. Top of Snowdon, even Brecon would probably be in double minus figures this year

Stormchaser,

Grit/sand Lorry or Salting/Grit mixture or Just Rock Salt?.

For the best result,

Salt needs to be applied to the road surface or pavements before the temperature drops to freezing.

Usually while the surface is wet.

6 degrees celsius is ideal. Thats when they are pretty sure the temperature will go to 0*C

The salt needs to take heat from the surface and moisture to turn to Brine & alter the freezing point of H20.

You can apply more economically then do a second application if required

That how it all works.

Then if you are putting Salt Down on snow or frozen surfaces, it requires vehicles to drive on the surface/salt to get the Brine activating.

*Ground/Grass frost temps given on weather reports are Ground Level readings.

Air Frost readings are taken at least 1 meter above the ground normally @ around 2 meters.*

The difference between Grass Frost & Air frost may be 2-3 *0 C

I have one word to sum up my feelings...

"meh"

I think my boss and i would have different opinions on what we thought was "essential".

So much for the "beast from the east" that the BBC were predicting. Pathetic. Couple of chilly days with absolutely no snow at all. The sad thing is i have to monitor weather forecasts closely each day as it affects our site operations. It would astound you how poor the 5 day forecasts are. Even one day in advance seems to be beyond their abilities. Pretty annoying when you have to cancel concrete pours due to "severe weather warnings" only to suffer 10 minutes of light drizzle. The default position seem to be to err on the side of caution i.e tell everyone the weather will be attrocious as then people dont moan when it appears to be better in reality. Doesnt help me much where "factual" forecasting would be more benefit.

I could write the newspaper headlines myself. 1 inch of snow means - "traffic chaos" on the front of all papers the next day. 2 inches = "total Gridlock, city brought to its knees".

Sad.

Coldest it got down here was -8.

This morning was -4, but it's due to warm up for a bit now.

-6 over here in Kent this morning - heat wave at the weekend though - up to 10 degrees!!
