1.9 sdi sounding rough and not going over 60mph

Featured Replies

hi new to this so plz bare with me.

i have a fabia 2000 x reg 1.9 sdi 161k on the clock drives sweet around town but sounds very rough and struggles to reach above 60mph on the motorway ,its recently had a full service i.e glow plugs fuel filter oil filter oil air filter but no better unfortunately, dose anyone have any advice on this ????

It's a pretty vague set of symptoms so how's the mpg? Do the rev's stay constant at a constant speed/flat road or is the clutch slipping at all? When was the fuel filter drained/changed last? Have you considered buying a cheap VCDS lite compatible lead or having it scanned to see if any fault codes are present? Has the belt been done recently (and is/was it timed properly?) Is it making and holding temperature OK? It could be a load of other things as well but you need to try and narrow it down with some more info :)

Sounds similar to my current problem, could be a blocked Cat or EGR, just had my clutch done and mines okay on flat but hills/inclines are another story.

hi i have just done a run out to the coast and back 140 mile all round and used quarter of a tank so not to bad on the mpg i guess? and last week i done the service engine flush as well, timing belt was done last month i also asked him to check timing and he said it was bang on. as for the temp gauge was not working but a little fiddle and it works but it fluctuates going between the half way mark and the quarter mark. how do you clean the CAT and EGR??? btw revs stay the same and the clutch seems fine tried the 3rd gear test and it stalls.

Just buy a new CAT if it is that. there should be a guide on cleaning the EGR value on here.

I wouldn't buy new parts unless you know they are faulty. I think it could be a fuel pump, when they fail the engine runs fine up to the point where it needs lots of fuel, ie at speed. It could be a number of things though.

I would suggest taking it to a decent garage. The cost of diagnosis will be minimal compared to buying new bits.

Hi I am also new to this forum !

I  have just bought a nice 2003 SDI Saloon (Sedan) very clean and nice bodywork 128,000 miles, very pleased with it except that it runs a bit noisy and think I may have an EGR issue ? as it blows a little White Smoke on starting in the morning but this clears after a few minutes also sometimes up hill.

Also as I am driving along it seems to have intermittent boosts of power ?

Economy seems good 56 mpg

6,000 miles  ago the previous owner had a lot of work done including a New Cam Belt, Full Service Fuel & Air Filters etc. and a New Clutch.

I bought an ELM 327 Bluetooth Diagnostic adaptor and the Torque App to see if there were any fault codes, Non were reported when I ran the test.

I am wondering if I should try the Battery Disconnection Retune outlined on these pages or should I methodically check various components first?

Nearly forgot I have already tried to clean the EGR using a Wynn's EGR cleaner, seems to be a little better but I might be imagining it ?

Any advise would be helpful.

Many thanks
