Surging Forward/Reverse

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

New to the forum so please be gentle Lol

I recently purchased a 2007 Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI 140 Auto Estate, when i took it for the initial test drive i noticed that she was performing a little unusual but for some reason thought that its just the way Skodas perhaps drive.

I have noticed now that when i first start her from cold in the mornings as i turn the ignition key and just after she fires up there is a thud and she sounds and feels like she has just slammed into gear with a slight backwards push of the vehicle when this noise happens.

Also which i think is related, when i stop at for example at a set of traffic lights and its in drive after so many seconds she wants to surge/jump forward not creep like most autos, same thing happens in reverse if you put it in reverse and let handbrake and footbrake off she creeps back at a normal slow speed then surges/jumps quicker then back to a normal creep with the engines revolutions then another surge which in either reverse or forward is somewhat frightening as i have no real control except for putting foot on the brake pedal.

Same thing happens when going up a slight incline, she surges fast then slow then fast then slow theres no constent speed.

So when driving i feel as if i am not in complete contol which obviously i should be.

I took it to a well known Skoda dealer in Warrington who sat in the car and put it in reverse and stated it was the torque converter and that it was quite normal in Skodas however i disagree with him as it just does not feel right to me.

I am wondering if it could be a problem with the torque converter or perhaps can an engine mount give a similar feeling ???

If any members have any light that they could shed on this for me it would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Tony

I assume this is the DSG gearbox, no torque convertor then, and the Skoda dealer should know that.

I don't like the behaviour of my gearbox, similar behaviour to yours but jerky. I bought through the trade and didn't have guarantee. I don't have the thud you refer to.

I think you should seek yet another opinion or try to get the dealer to take it back. Sounds like it's the mechatronic unit (this operates the clutch mechanism) and it's an expensive main dealer job.

Don't you just love main dealers, there seem to be daily threads now demonstrating their distinct lack of knowledge.
