High Power LED reversing lights - any suggestions / recommendations?

Featured Replies

Pretty much as the title says.

I sometimes need to park in quite a dark corner, and the standard spec reversing lights aren't really cutting the darkness.

Anyone uprated to LEDs? Any suggestions of a good reliable canbus friendly source?

TIA (thanks in anticipation, - before someone asks :) )

LED bulbs won't light up the corner better than your standard bulb, they will look whiter for sure, but the light output from LED's isn't all that great.

I don't know about LEDs, and it may not help on your 2012 model, but on my 2009 Superb I uprated the reversing lights by replacing the standard 16 Watt bulbs with a similar fitting bulb of 21 watts. (Code: R923) It helped a bit, but not as much as I hoped. It seems that the reversing lights are set a bit too high and dont look down at the road surface.

Good luck trying to find working LEDs. They simply do not make them with the kind of lument output needed. plus all VW based Skoda reversing lamp clusters rely on filament/source of light being in more or less correct position, otherwise far less light leaves the cluster.

You could try Osram Halostar IRC (HIR) bulbs in 25W-35W guise, they used to be relatively cheap at Screwfix and other shops, it is actually easier to fit them in Mk2 Superb than it was in Mk1.

If reversing lights are monitored (Canbus error when bulb is blown), you cannot wire in a load sharing relay, though, but then again perhaps the voltage to the bulb is higher than on Mk1..

You could try the later generation of Cree LED’s, these are much brighter than normal LED’s

The Superb estate uses W16W bulbs for the reversing lights, not sure about the twin hatch.

The Superb estate uses W16W bulbs

those will need external resistors if you don't want constant lamp fail indication

^^^^^^ What he said. I have some LED reversing bulbs fitted (something daft like 56 SMD LED's) and although they're feckin bright, the 'projected light' is pretty poor.
