V6 First Service - Incl Seat s/w Upgrade

Featured Replies

Took car in for the first service today.

Had the car a few days under 11 months and covered nearly 18,600 miles.

I am sure they made a mistake on price as I am on service plan - they gave me a copy of invoice and it was < 150 GBP - WOW ! If that really is the cost, the service plan is a very costly option.

Also s/w upgrade on seats - not a recall - but a service element instruction.

Tyres all marked as 6 mm which is also very pleasing.

Overall 29.5 MPG, dropped a little since darker/wet days.

And a wash and polish thrown in.

Service reception at SG Smith Croydon, best I've ever come across in 43+ years of motoring.

Car in at 8:30am back at 12:00pm.

s/w upgrade?

amazing 18.000 Miles car with a v6 engine and you still have 6m on the tyres do you ever go over 30mph.most people are lucky to get that befour they have to replace all four tyres and what is a s/w upgrade

My V6 still haven't been in for a service, its only done 12,000 miles :D

Before I bought it, I asked how much the services were and I was told they were the same as the 170CR 4x4, so you got a good deal there :)

I'm only getting 27.7mpg average, but its mainly town driving. On a run I will average about 32

I can only dream of 30 mpg. Sure, on a long cruise on the motorway I get close but I am resigned to 25 mpg. Please enlighten us on s/w upgrade. Software? What was done?

s/w - Software upgrade a reprogramming of the controllers

I was told when I booked the car in that they had a field modificaition upgrade for the electric seats - they couldn't tell me what it fixed but i was wondering whether it was the mysterious seat back problem mentioned on the forum. I have never had any issues with the seats, that said they are never adjusted as i found the correct position for me early on and have not changed since.

My jouney is predominantly A and M roads which is why I thought I could live with the V6 fuel consumption - a recent trip down the M3 reaslised 33 easily.

As for tyres, the jourmeys I make are also, I believe, very soft on tyres. I think that I anticipate traffic well and rarely find myself braking heavily. Long straight roads are a great help in this regard.

I would have had a 170CR 4x4 DSG had it been available, so next time it looks like I will have to change from a Superb. As muich as I love the brand and my current car, you cannot justify driving such a car today - the consumption, Duty etc., are OK for a short period, but not viable long terrm.

OK OK BUT WHAT IS A S/W UPGRADE, the suspense is killing me.

Me too!

I wonder if the `a` should be `and`. It would make more sense then.

Dont want to be pedantic, but I still dont know what the `w` stands for in s/w.

disappointed now.seat upgrade how boring

Dont want to be pedantic, but I still dont know what the `w` stands for in s/w.

In the context used, it stands for "ware" - as in "software" - and you're not being pedantic. There's nothing pedantic about wanting the English language, including punctuation, to be used correctly. I think that a more common abbreviation for "software" is "sw" - as in "sw package." :)

Price is about right - been quoted £190 for 2nd service and MOT from Main VW dealer (+£45 to change Haldex oils if needed, but not recommended to 3rd service, or so i've been told... will have them changed tho) - used same dealer for 1st service and it was circa £150 too.

s/w is a perfectly valid abbreviation for software as is h/w for hardware f/w for firmware and m/w for middleware.

Just a habit I got into in my early years of computing and old habits die hard.

my next service will be free of charge.

In a pedantic mood myself, this evening, so.........

s/w - software. No problems. That would be my natural assumption.

but 'sw' - well sorry, that (in my book, at least) can only ever mean 'south west'. Need to keep our compass points clear, and not let the abbreviation lists become cluttered with confusing alternatives.

Who knows, if 'sw' lost its bearing, we'd all be up the creek without a paddle (or a compass!) . Just about as useful as the satnav app on an iPhone 5 (unless, of course, you have just downloaded the recently available Google Maps from the iStore - I mean, that is truly a case of Apple admitting defeat with their own app!)

Received a letter from Skoda yesterday to say that the seat warranty repair was 70E8 (Adjustment Campaign)
