Need some advice about glasses

if you go back the length to bend should be able to be adjusted also. I am pretty convinced it is a fitting issue. off the peg sunglasses are set up for an 'average' shaped head. that is likely why your sunnies were ok, but i expect they are not a perfect fit.

ask to see the dispensing optician. get the downward agle of drop, inward angle of drop (I bet this is the prob) the length to bend and head width checked.

if they are not sure what this is, ask (politely) to see another one.

should be an easy fix.

The only way I can get these glasses anywhere near comfortable (not perfect as im still taking painkillers for my neck ache). Is to bring the frames away from the back of my skull/neck, the right arm is straight and is aimed pointing away from my head at the moment by probably a few degrees max. the left one has got a very slight curve in it.

As soon as i put any curve to follow the rear of my head as in your picture, it puts me in agony. Several opticians have adjusted my glasses now, and my most recent optician did get them a damn site better, did ask me to come back in a weeks time and made adjustments again that put me back to square one...since then I've just lost hope and started bending them anyway I can think of to make them comfortable. The only downside is that although they don'f fall off of my head they do tend to work there way forwards.

I've taken delivery of a new bed today and im hoping the old bed may have been a contribution to my neck ache. As even though i can wear them for maybe 4-6 hours maximum now before i have to take them off for some relief.

The only thing i've noticed though is that i get a tightness in my jaw every now and then.

Where the end of the legs touch is the area I experience the said pain though Gadgetman...to better explain how they sit the glasses are only touching my head at and after the downward bend for about half the length after the bend. The end of the legs curve away from the base of my skull/neck. Whilst wearing the glasses I seem to get spots or blisters around where the end of the legs would touch, even though there not touching.

I'm no expert on fitment im finding at the moment if i lift them off of my nose there isof lateral movement in a horizontal direction, whilst sat on my ears. So i wouldnt say they are pinching at my head...i just find i start to ache from my kneck whilst wearing them. And they feel as though they sit on my right ear heavy...ive bent the nose pieces as to take more weight on the problematic side of my head.

Do get rub marks on the top of my right ear but they dont actually feel sore at the moment.

I think self adjustment might not be helping as what you think logically may make it better might be doing the opposite through reflective pain.

Has your doctor referred you to a neurologist? Don't doubt the pain is there but there must be an underlying cause which the glasses have brought out

The doctor hasn't a clue either imo, ive been three times now....and the last two times he's fobbed me off with if it doesn't go with adjustment of glasses. Come back in two weeks and we'll send you to physiotherapy.

The last time i went in he nearly fell off the chair when i told him what i was experiencing and this was the 2nd appointment with this one doctor.

I find that when i put them on i get aching from just below my ears and down into my collar bones, where i feel this strange feeling just below the collar bone sort of in the recess. There isn't any sort of pain in comparison to what i have been experiencing.

When i come to taking them off after say 4-6 hours i feel relieved to have took them off.

As for self adjustment, i've just sat and slowly bent them inwards and put them on. As soon as they touch the back of the skull i get a radiating pain outwards, back them off and it goes away.

I personally think the glasses have triggered some sort of problem with my neck muscles to be honest, i've slanting shoulders it seems to run in the family tbh.

I've experienced cracking/clunking and tightness in my jaw since being a teenager, but its never caused a problem to be honest.

Really gutted for you.

I have only really met one person with these symptoms many years ago, as bad as yours. The only way you can get through it is to find a dispensing optician with a bit of patience who is local. It took months of visits to get them sorted, tried my patience to the max and I have a long fuse. Even then, they still had to come in once a week/fortnight to have them looked over. I think in the end it was more in than on their head.

The pictures look reasonable, so I would suggest you see theguy who made it better the first time round and stick with him. He won't be able to do his job if you are not honest though. So many people get embarrassed and say it's fine because they don't want to waste time.

I really hope it gets fixed for you.

You need a neurologist not a physiotherapist.

Get an appointment with another doctor and tell them how it's affecting your life. You may have to lay it on extra thick.

I had to to get an issue looked into, and after consulting another doc about my symptoms and history agreed I need a referral to a specialist.

To be honest the optician i've got at the moment is more than patient enough, to be honest spec savers was quite patient but I was seeing different people every time i went back.

He describes me as a challenge  to be honest, im not sure how it could be psychological? Depending on the adjustment of the legs can give in instant relief of pain...my current independent optician made an adjustment one visit and i went from pure agony where I couldn't wear them to where I could wear them for hours without issue.

The part i cant get my head around is that when im out in the cold.....the sensation disappears, if I get back in the car and start warming up it starts to come back.

Currently im sore all the way across my back between my shoulder blades and have tightness up the side of my neck behind my ears and it appears my glands are swollen. I find that the glasses aren't actually hurting my head at the moment...its as though they sit/press on some nerve and upset everything. No matter how much adjustment I make to them i find that where they sit ontop of my right ear they seem to feel like there sitting heavy and eventually I sort of get a tingle/burning feeling as though the area is becoming sore...but this has been a location where i have become sore.

I've worn them for 30minutes at the moment and i can already feel my neck starting to tighten up, if i turn my neck right i can feel pulling on my left collar bone

I've gone for half frames to try and keep the weight down to a minimum as the lightweight flexible wire looking frames really don't suite me at all.

Gadgetman, what is your reason to suggest a Neurologist? I want to know what your thoughts are and understand how I should explain my request to the doctors.

As it's pain related it comes under neurology. They'll be best qualified to identity the underlying cause and send you for the right tests.

There are so many nerves that interact and affect each other the cause could be anywhere on your body.

Not sure why the doc thinks you need a physiotherapist. It's not muscular.

Sounds like you are in the trade?

I must admit in over 30 years as a Dispensing Optician I have never seen nor heard anything like this. It may be the spectacle fitting aggravating a pre-existing neural condition?. The only area at the back of the ear where spectacles may irritate is the area of the Mastoid. Whether this (Mastoiditis) can create further issues is GP territory.

I am happy to answer spectacle /contact lens related problems on forums, but seeing a professional on a one to one basis is by far the best option. It may need a visit to another optician to find a satifactory conclusion, but it is the responsibilty of the original optician to ensure that you are happy, and can see, and be comfortable in your spectacles.

When I was experiencing the excrutiating pain before I specifically got the doctor to check my ears as I thought likewise gadgetman.

I've read up on tension headaches and this is sort of what i was experiencing at first but without the headache..all the muscles described in diagrams were the ones specifically giving me hassle.

Im afraid I stopped wearing the glasses at 5.30, this afternoon.....im about to go to bed and i've started experiencing aching from between my shoulders, but the strong dull pain behind my skull either side at ear level is starting to become unbearable.

Could it be stress related, i started a relatively demanding job last february as a trainee and soon as i passed out as approved in sort of September/October time its been demanding. I spend my time leaning into testing tanks putting components in and trueing them as they revolve this isnt really a stressful procedure though.

But overall i dont come away from work feeling aggrevated, or upset.

I've dabbled ;)

the new job description seems to also give big clues. leaning in to tanks, adjusting moving things. that is not going to help neck or back, could this be a factor and could it be avoided at work somehow?

Sorry to resurect an old thread and I hope you've resolved your problems by now.

Another option is to perform a corrective eye surgery. Lots of people I know had it done without any problems or complications and despite having to take up a loan to cover the costs all of them are saying those where the best spent money ever.

Hopefully they will still think that in a few year's time - know a couple of people who were similar but have now changed their minds after a few problems with their vision and wished they'd never had it done.

YMMV as they say :)

Thing is, it's been mainstream commercially for 10-15 years. Any long term effects will start to appear soon. I am seeing the odd person who reports scattering of light, kind of like a starburst effect driving at night.

I think the techniques have improved/are different nowadays, but I personally would still give it another 5 years imo.

I know this has been years, but I suffer from the same thing.  Glasses  hurt and cause  neck issues.  I've spent a lot of money trying to fix whatever is wrong to no avail. I was curious if you ever found the reason.  My current thought is it is the SCM muscle

OK, let me ask some basic questions.

Do you feel pressure squeezing on the bridge of your nose, and/or above and/or behind your ears when you're wearing glasses? Do the hooks on the legs of the frames bend down behind your ears or not?
