10K review fabis GLII

Featured Replies

so picked up my GLII estate in june

passed 10k miles last week,

average MPG to date (over full tank) 61.05

best MPG (over full tank) 65.81

best MPG on trip 88.7 (25mile trip from work home) and 88.3 hounslow back to kent (60 ish miles round m25)

average cost per mile 10.4 pence, trip computer is accurate to within +/- 2%

not had to put any oil in so far, has dropped about 1/3rd way down hatched area, so should get to service without having to add any oil

car has been set to variable service plan and indicating service due at 18-18.5k miles

good points

  • loads of room in boot,
  • comfortable to drive,
  • pulls well even though only 1.2TDi, so long as you keep the revs above 1500-1700
  • radio good enough for me,
  • standard equipment level good,
  • handling is good but does have a tendency to understeer in wet on roundabouts fairly easilly.
  • steering nicely wieghted, but very heavy without engine running (noticable if on hill with engine stopped under stop start until you reach about 4-5mpg where engine starts automatically under stop / start program)
  • ABS works well, keeps car in straight line under heavy braking on uneven road surface
  • start stop technology works well, really does save fair bit of fuel in rush hour traffic
  • gearbox is good
  • build quality good, no squeaks or rattles (thats done it now hasn't it :( )
  • plenty of room in engine bay to work / change bulbs due to being 3 pot lump (unlike 1.6tdi etc on the monte)
  • plenty of cubby holes to put things for driver

minor annoyances

  • hill hold control can be a bit annoying,
  • slightly disappointed with fuel consumption, can get 80+mpg on a number of runs but the overall average on full tank not as good as expected,
  • as with all skoda's i have owned the headlight level control is out of sight unless you move a fair bit and take your eyes of the road
  • not able to spec spare wheel at order time due to wieght / green version of car (but it has aircon and roof rails ???)
  • DRL's not LED (on an eco model? )
  • passenger side sun visor give me big blind spot when down
  • you have to wait a second or two between the two pushes of the keyfob to unlock all the doors, if you push it twice quickly it does not seem to register second push
  • aircon comes on whenever you direct all air to screen to defrost / demist screen regardless of if you have max heat set on temp dial
  • mpg seem very sensitive to tyre pressures, (if you notice drop in mpg first thing to check is tyre pressures)

Bad points

no points i would describe as bad

things that disable stop start

  • all air directed to screen for demist / defrost
  • door not shut
  • drivers seat belt warning on
  • depress brake several times to drain vacuum from servo (car restarts to build vacuum again)
  • last movement of car was in reverse
  • DPF active regen

visits to dealer due to problems

none

DPF regen

only noticed 4-5 regens due to idle speed increase to 1200rpm and fan running after engine stopped

noticed a few regen's on road due to lack of power and sudden drop in instantaneous MPG

Good review. Aircon comes on to help with the demisting. Way more effective with this on, would take a lot longer without it.

Nice review - 10k miles since this June is a lot! Only done 8.5k in my vrs since last June! Lol

I wouldn't be disappointed with the 60 ish mpg, that's pretty damned good. Never trust manufacturers mpg figures... I learnt this with my vrs'

Led drl's only one vrs which is a nice feature :)

Yes good review; GLII is a nice package but personally I couldn't get on with the gearing; driven a couple fairly extensively as loan cars. Also I have to agree, that on the narrower 185/60 'eco' tyres handling suffers for little gain over the more stable 195/55 rubber.

Oh not had issue with HHC myself, find it a very useful feature living in the Wolds.

i was hoping to get the urban figure of 68mpg as the average over a tank, i am only slightly disappointed with that

DRL's i fail to see why skimp on them for an "eco" car when they claim you can't even order a spare wheel as an option "due to the additional weight" or a tow bar or even prep factory fit asit is an "eco" model

surely for efficiency LED DRL's and HID lamps should at least be an option

10k since june due to 50mile round trip to work, several trips each month to data centre 60 miles from office and several trips kent to devon

so i have seen the car in a large number of scenario's (including lugging 8 x 4 sheets of ply on roof rails and various building materials in boot for daughter house)

great little motor

so long as you don't want to do 0-62 in < 14 seconds would recommend it to anyone (and it is not as slow as you think, 0-40 is pretty quick but once you get into 3rd it starts to show lack of power) only problem is when i drive swmbo's mk1 vrs and i go to pull out quick and forget it has twice the power, my left ear is roasted for leaving rubber on the road :)
