No Windows!

Featured Replies

Used my windows yesterday all okay tried this evening ..NOTHING.... seems the fuse may have blown but too dark to mess around. I just wonder if anyone has any experience of this and has everything been okay once fuse replaced or should I worry there is an underlying problem that has caused this? I have had no Mechanical or electrical problems at all in 3 years of ownership.

If all of them are not working then most likely cause is blown fuse, have you tried to use them when frozen up?

Need to get a torch and go check/swap the fuse to see if this fixes it - most things have very simple causes.

Cheers Andy, No I haven't used them when frosty as I appreciate this is not good. My little car has only front electric windows and both switches are 'dead'. I'm an old guy (I mean OLD!!!) so messing about with a torch in the pouring rain as it is ..!! is no longer my scene. I have my local VW specialist virtually on the doorstep so will visit him tomorrow but just wondered if the problem was common. I know the window motors have given probs to some but mine have up to now been fine.

There are countless threads about electric windows not working on this part of the forum. Have you done a search and trid the different 'tricks' and checks.

Try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, you will lose radio presets, code and all trip data.

Okay, called in today, it's not the fuse and no other electrics seem to be affected just the windows which on my model are front only. I have booked into the garage for 2nd Jan. They say it might be a wiring fault but need to have it in to confirm. I will post back with details as soon as I know. Thanks for the replies guys.

Which dealer is it?

Did they charge you an extortionate fee (over £50) just to have a look/diagnosis? and a further £130 or so if it's the motor, a further whatever it costs if it's the switch or whatever they find?

Sorry for delay in reply. No it's my local VW specialist and they are tops. I use them all the time for service and MOT etc and they are a good reliable Garage. "Louth VW Volksworld" I can recommend them.

Update. Went in to Louth this morning, thought I'll try the windows. Now working perfectly, no problems after almost 2 weeks of being absolutely dead. How strange is that? Could it be an intermittent wiring fault or does the computer sort of re-boot itself? Any suggestions?
