...what is recommended fording depth?...

No higher than the sills

I think the owners manual mentions avoiding water that comes any higher than the axles i.e. mid-wheel.

Tha manual says no higher than the bottom of the sills.

The sills then.

Could also depend on how fast you go through the water, making a bow wave in the process.

I would recommend going no higher than the depth you would need to go just before you cause any damage............... :bandit:

Or just avoid it where possible, no higher than the sills though if you really have to try to go through it.............

IF you do need to go through deeper water, use a MK1 Fabia - there's an "ON" switch in a secret cubby hole to the right of the steering wheel - it activates the propeller and rudders........

Took my Octy across a wide ford in Derbyshire not long after buying it. I'd watched some Landrovers go through and it wasn't much higher than the tyres (maybe halfway to the hub) so around 9". Got through fine (and got a cheer from the 4x4 onlookers) but the plastic undertray must have caught on a rock or been pushed back by the water pressure (took it a little too quick). That cost £70 to get fixed at the next service, as the two side trays had ripped

I've been a bit more cautious since and the Yeti has only waded through floods under 8".
