Connecting Samsung HT-THQ22 to Xbox 360

Featured Replies

Has anyone connected surround sound system to Xbox 360?

If so, please can you share the "how to" details please!

Thanks

Xbox's have Optical out if that helps or can do sound over the HDMI.

mmmmm, will need to double check what outputs I have on the back...

If it is an older xBox using the component cable, then it has direct optical out which should be able to go straight into your surround sound.

If via HDMI, then optical out of your TV into your surround sound, or if the surround sound has HDMI throughput, then HDMI from xbox to surround sound then HDMI to your TV.

It's a newer Xbox 360, I will look into this when I get home, think the surround has only one HDMI though but if it has 2 then HDMI from Xbox to Surround then Just looked this up, see below;207023-5.jpg

Does your TV sound currently come through the surround by just HDMI? (When not watching a film)

It doesn't yet - will be setting it all up tonight but I am a touch impatient and wanted to do it all together so getting my research in...

I imagine you will have to run phono from your TV sound out to the surround sound to get normal TV sound and XBOX sound through the system. This being phono, however, will only be 2.1 and not full 5.1 surround.

That panel looks more like a DVD player than a surround sound system :S

There is no optical audio (little square input) so you will have to use the compent cable from the Xbox.

Video ones go to your tv and the audio ones go in to the relevant audio sockets (red & yellow) on your cinema system

That will mean your Xbox audio will ONLY come out of your cinema system though and only be stereo not surround sound, unless your tv have stereo output in which case you'll need to buy some red and yellow leads and connect your tv to your cinema system.

Unless of course Xbox can send audio and video via hdmi to the TV AND audio via component.

I know mine sends component and optical at the same time so you might luck out.

That said given that panel there is no way you'lll get surround sound out of your Xbox wiv it you'll get stereo at best.

Well, it is a DVD unit, thought this could be done quite easy though? Maybe not...

yeah sorry of course it's a DVD player - my LG surround sound system plays DVDs.

Surround sound for xBox is easy - mine is done with one optical cable - but with that unit it'll prove a problem as it's only got a snile stereo input to connect other devices

I think your issue is as Cliff says, the Samsung unit only supports a stereo external input looking at that diagram.
