painting brake drums / calipers

Featured Replies

hi pick up my monte on the 29th dec had a look at her today and just realised it has drum brakes on the back which look quite +rap in the bare metal colour with the black alloys has any body painted them and if so any recommendations on types of paint dont really want spray paint thanks

on daughters monte they were painted silver when delivered, not bare metal ?

I used caliper paint from halfords to do mine on my old car.....long as you do it carfully you cant go wrong

Removed the rear drum and gave them a good coat of VHT the day after delivery. Noted they were starting to rust already, as VAG apply such a thin layer of that light grey primer :S

A hard wearing coat of black top coat would be so much better but they obviously feel that they can get away with saving a few pence per car in this area :(

The Drums look +rap painted any colour imo which is why I've considered converting to discs if possible! It seems only the UK Monte's have rear drums!

My drums are a horrible pale grey bare metal which is how they were when I collected the car!

hi well i painted the front calipers and the rear drums satin black 100% improvment but found i had to also paint the inside of the alloy spokes would post some pictures but the site wont allow pictures to big (+rap with computers )

I used good old Hammerite on mine, it was the stuff you brush on and was a nice black/grey finish. Has worked a treat and no signs of any weathering as yet!

You have to paint the drums as they will weld onto the alloys, on my elegance I sprayed them black so they couldn't be seen and copper grease to follow

think I'll paint the drums black and the front calipers red!!!
