Access to dag-blasted starter solenoid wire.

Featured Replies

Two helpful chaps pushed my car earlier as my starter once again lacks a "go" wire.

Previous repair lasted 2+ years, so shouldn't complain...

However, I ran into a roadblock trying to fix it earlier. Once of the 1/2" nuts holding the battery box down has decided to rust and round off. That stopped play after 1/2 hour of bashing various sockets onto it. Stopped for the evening at 17:30, soaked through ****ed off and grumpy.

I'm pretty much on my own to fix it. It MUST be fixed for Monday. Current ideas are:-

1) Cut that lug off the battery box and flick two fingers in the direction of the still stuck nut.

2) Obtain a hold saw or similar and cut around the stud/nut to remove the battery box.

3) Dremel as much of the nut as possible, then smash it to bits with a large hammer and cold chisel.

Beginning to wish I had more Norse blood as "3)" is calling to me. Though ultimately, I feel setting the car on fire is a move in the wrong direction. :)

Am I missing anything simple? Such as "simply" removing the undertray? Would that allow sufficient access? I recall the plug on the starter solenoid is 1) difficult to remove and 2) on the top of the bloody thing.

Now fixed... but less well than before. It broke right at the connector this time, so insulated spade connector and insulation tape is the bodge.

ISTR someone mentioning a repair kit/wire. Anyone got a part number if that's the case. Does it include the connector?

EDIT: Managed to take apart the existing connector.

1) purple plastic C clip undoes and slides out of a handy gap.

2) Orange bung can then be teased out.

3) Becomes apparent that the black connector is one moulding. so...

4) use paper clips or similarly thin wires through the main slot in the connector to push the metal contact plus the white bung out the back of the connector.

Would have piccie(s) but currently all NiMHs are flat, need recharging.

Cheers,

J.
