door seals removing paint

Featured Replies

hi all . i have had 4 days with the car since buying it its a 2008 tdi vrs . it was pouring down when i viewed it at the dealers not something i would normally do but i had travelled 117 miles to see it so had no choice realy . i was giving it a look over today and noticed that where the rubber door seals close onto the paint it appears to be rubbing some of the paint off around both back doors and under the tailgate this seems very strange for a 4 year old car as anyone had this problem and do you think it will be covered by skodas paint warranty i. sincerly hope so not a happy bunny at the moment

Slipping into a turkey coma as I type. :-)

I've seen that sort of thing on lots of older cars. It may be miss alignment or more likely dirt rubbed against the paint. People do neglect to clean and treat the inside shut areas of the doors. The manufacturers know this and you will often find odd bits of clear sticky plastic as a sacrificial layer where, for example, a bump stop on a door meets the frame.

Unless you think the car is dodgy (respray?) I'd clean it and treat the rubbers before it gets worse. (Anything from WD40 to wax or something specially made for trim).

As for the warranty; it's 3 years on paint work. IIRC

this happened on my old Octavia, by the time you notice its too late!

apparently earlier models had stiffer rubber, that when dirty, caused rubbing against the paint, I just used WD40 on mine and it never got any worse, but had I been keeping the car, I would have seen a chipsaway (or the like) guy and had it repaired then replaced the rubbers. make sure you keep them clean!

Have this on my 08 Scout, but strangely only on rear passenger side (Also get wind noise from same door) I suspect a poor repair by a previous owner.

Oddly i have just had my door sills painted because of this said rubbing against the sill from the rubbers.
