New vRS Owner

Featured Replies

Hello \o/

Just wanted to say I'm a new vRS owner - picked up yesterday :)

Better half already has a 2009 Fabia "2" 1.6 so was used to the skoda brand for a little while, and after seeing how great hers is, cleared up the skoda brand for me (im from THAT generation... skips on wheels etc...)

Come from an Impreza, so its down on power and seriously down on handling/traction, but im getting old(er) and am more than happy to pootle along with a bit of overtaking power still on tap :)

Its a 2012 blue with white wheels and roof - ex demo, so had the pants thrashed out of it... or maybe just warmed up for me  Had some strange options that i probably wouldnt have picked if i purchased brand new (sun roof... huh?) and missing some i would have thought essential (no rear electric windows... wtf?)

So far things going well, apart from the rear wiper destroyed itself within 20 mins, so had to head back and get a replacement. Cant wait to get a bit more used to the car. Not a fan of small engine autos, but the dsg is pretty smart and in manual is awesome - so far, it does what ive wanted it to do, so better than the other halfs slush box auto.

Will be strange having to check my oil, this will be the first car ive ever owned that will actually use oil. Ive purchased 8L of the stuff to keep me going, so if its a bad one, ill have enough to keep me going till its fixed... if ive got a good one then they can use some of that oil on the next service i guess.

Anyway, great site, loads of info which has helped loads... just have to stop spending money on the thing now!

Welcome to the forum.

Enjoy your car.

Hopefully that 8 litres can sit until you use it for the next 2 oil changes.

Which Impreza did you have?

I used to have a Turbo 2000 before they went bug eyed.

you cant say it WILL use oil, mine doesn't use a drop, 43,000 happy miles so far, don't listen too much to the scare mongering ;)

and a remap/TMC box, may bring the acceleration closer to what you are used to (If you're interested)

happy motoring!

You should enjoy the car. It's not as "good" as an Impreza, but it's a lot cheaper and should be a lot more economical.

Funny how opinions differ on options.I bought new and specified a sun roof because I like to open it on warm days and switch off the air con.

Not sure why rear electric windows are "essential",I didn't want them and ,so far, haven't missed them at all.

As to oil usage,I've done nearly 2k miles and added only half a litre,so this is BETTER than my previous Octy vRS tsi,so no problem.

Obviously there are a very small minority of bad engines out there, but I think the rest ,most of which use moderate amounts of oil, would benefit from a change to 5/40 oil.

The handbook clearly states that 5/30 oil only should be used but some dealers are recommending and putting in 5/40...total confusion!!!

The handling is not great.I haven't driven any other Fabia, but it's what I would expect an "ordinary" one to be like,I'd expect better from the "performance" model. However,as you will have read,a set of springs and a rear arb should bring it up to scratch for only about £350.

I had a blob eye wrx which was a great car but a fair amount to run.

Think manual windows are a bit out of date, I want it all electric. They just annoy me when they creep down on their own. sun roof I guess is nice, brings in light if wanted... Don't think it will get much use, but always nice to have extras I guess.

Been out today, getting used to the car. Think I need the tracking looked at, got it pulling to the left a bit but that's not a problem. Fuel tank only 45l approx? That won't last me long hehe

Handling is better than the missis fabia, and her steering is like a feather, no feeling in it at all (she likes, I don't).

Mine has a very slight pull to the left, you just need a very slight pressure with the right hand on a straight road, although it's barely noticable.

Tyre pressures are correct. It might be tracking, but I suspect it's just slightly over sensitive to road cambers.

Perhaps the when I get the lowered springs it will be eliminated, although I might just mention it to the dealer and see what he says.

The Electronic Steering can be a adjusted to make it heavier.

(& 215/40/17 tyres change the feeling a little depending on the tyres being used.)

&

other little things you might want to change once you are more used to it.

Have you set your own tyre pressures,

then re-set the TPMS once done?

Thanks for the link,George.

I need to get this done, the steering is too light and lacking in feel as it is now.

Excellent colour choice, sounds familiar!

+1 can let go on motorways keeps straight (but i dont)

My MKI vRS pulled to the left but the MKII seems very Lib Dem.

If thats the one that was a Progress on bedford rd, then I have driven that one myself (it was on as a Demo), I think Phil used it as hes daily driver for a bit its a really nice car i ended buying a white one as that was the wife's choice. Great car I would suggest getting a set of springs for it I did and its really improved the car.
