vRS - towing a track car?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wondered if anyone was able to give me some advice regards Octy vRS and towing?

I

I know a few people use them to tow a caravan so I wouldn't think you'd have a problem.

Apart from it rips the guts out a car. I don't agree with towing with cars - they just aren't designed to carry upto 2x the curb weight... Buy an old landrover or something - its cruel to use a vRS! :P

Not really got the room for a VRS, a trailer, a track car, and a Landy to tow them with unfortunately ;)

Towing on a trailer?

Yes it is quite possible to do it and a stripped out pug would be fine.

As for it being cruel, talk to Mr Horton who used to tow his 205 with a modded scoob :D

Would need to be a trailer - don't fancy the road to Knockhill with a tow rope attached to the back of the vRS and a track car dangling off the end! :D

Thanks for the replies so far chaps!

just drive the pug there!

If my plans come to fruition, it might not be overly road legal ;) :headbang:

As long as your trailer has brakes and the combined weight of it and the Pug are 1300kg or less then it's perfectly legal.

The Octy will tow it no problem

Funnily enough i've just been looking on eBay for a trailer to take the Octy to track days!

I think he was meaning that the Pug would not be legal to drive on the road :)

Chris

I was thinking about this and then decided sod it I'll keep the pug road legal.

get a pug 205 to tow it!

I use my vrs to tow mk kit car to track days (No i can't drive it there the nice police men would probably shoot me!) and have used it for hauling a fair bit of stuff around the countryside it's a fine tow car and doesn't struggle half the time i forget the trailers there!

The only slight reserve i have is that i've killed my rear shocks but then they've done 40k too so i'd guess it's a combination of use and abuse :-)

Just a thought for you before you do start towing and one which upsets me everytime i think about it - the price of the clutches for the dam things!!!!

The engine and gearbox seem well up to the job - vw have put it in most things a fair bit bigger and heavier with no detriment :-)
