Water in footwell (after doors sealed)

Featured Replies

Just before winter I sealed my rear doors.

After a few days of constant rain the car started steaming up again

The rear carpets are soaked and there is water gathering at the doors.

Does this mean I need to replace the metal sections?

Does anyone have a part no for the sponge stuff in the middle of the doors?

I have access to a rivet gun so don't mind drilling out the metal section and drying it out and replacing the sponge part

i would say they need re sealing. What did you use to seal them in the first place?

I used something similar to plumbers gold. Tried to make it as neat as possible though which might be my downfall :/

Sure it's not the front doors leaking now?

How much is it for the kit from a Skoda dealer? Anyone know? Part no? Cheers.

£45 and a waste of money, trust me! I believe skoda should issue them for free tbh

It does seem one of the most common problems doesn't it, and the poor design. Il just get a tube of plumbers gold then I think. Is one tube enough for all four doors? Rears need doing but may as well do the fronts also.

Absolutely, tbf to renault they know their window regs on the megane 2 were in a stupid place and fried with water and contribute 66% of the repair bill. Skoda should do the same for the door carriers.

I paid just shy of £45 for my kit, and it hasn't worked, possibly user error but I think I will get a tube of plumbers gold and put **** loads over the top. I'd say 1 tube will easily do 4 doors with leftovers mate :)

Why on top of something that already isn't working ?!? thats like embelishing a bad job lol

Sorry I didn't mean it harshly but just for effect to get the point across.

I'd clean the lot off and use the right stuff starting again from scratch, dry and clean, if you are going to the effort of stripping it right down why take shortcuts

I think I tried with a silicone before and it was a waste of time. 2nd time with black gutter sealant and its not perfect but I'm sure its dryer than it has been in the past. I wouldn't bother with anything less that something intended for serious outdoor use.

Need to give it another look over though as I'm still getting ingress from somewhere (maybe I missed a bit or its getting through the rivet holes) but I'm going to probably leave it to summer for some thorough wet testing ! Probably didn't help that I couldn't get official clips and opted for some cheap and cheerful Halfords ones.

Check where it's coming from. Not unheard of for it to leak through the rivets, or around speaker mounts etc if it's the fronts.
