Picked up my new Fabia today - couple of thoughts and questions

Featured Replies

Just collected my 1.9TDi Estate to replace...well a 1.9TDi Estate. (Wrecked engine in floods forced the change).

The new one is an Elegance, the old one was an Ambiente.

Got to say that the Elegance spec is brilliant. I love the beepy reverse thing, the leather trim adds real class, the extra interiors lights are good and the cruise control is very welcome. Heated seats, well I almost can't wait for a cold morning :-) Also, the horn appears to be two-tone and is waaaaay better than the old one.

Couple of things have cropped up, and none are a big deal as it came from a Skoda main dealer and has a year's warranty.

Firstly, I think the front nearside wheel bearing is on it's way out. There's a bit of whining when I put my foot down which goes if I lift off. If that a wheel bearing or perhaps a transmission problem. The noise is very noticeable from the left footwell and having driven the same model for 6 years I noticed it immediately.

Secondly, the passenger side electric window switch doesn't work. The window does so I was wondering if there's a way it might be disabled? I doubt it, and there's no mention in the manual. You lot will know though.

Last thing is that the driver's seat was quite damp. I reckon they pressure washed it and some water got in. The seal is slightly adrift above the offside passenger door and I reckon I can just restick/reseal with some transparent silicon. Does that sound OK?

I ought to mention that I didn't see the car before buying it, but chances are I wouldn't have noticed the electric window switch or the damp seat anyway. Given the fact it's got a warranty I'm none too bothered and I'm sure they'll sort these little niggles if I can't. Thought I'd ask here though anyway.

Cheers all.

Wheel bearing will rumble at any speed with clutch engaged or not, so doesn't sound like its that tbh. When you hear the noise, dip the clutch. If the noise is still present, its unlikely to be gearbox or clutch related, which is only a good thing. Get the dealer to look over it if I were you, as they may be reluctant to do anything if it proves to costly for them.

Elec window switch is probably the most likely cause. If you have a multimeter, check it out yourself as you may be able to pick one up from a scrappy or from one being broken on here for pence.

If the interior had recently been valeted, it may explain the damp seat. Try to dry it out, then maybe give it a hose down around the door seal to see if that is indeed the cause. Again get as much out of the dealership as possible, as the longer it goes on, the less likely the are to shell out on full repair.
