Funny starting and clock issue

Featured Replies

Hi all, happy new year :-)

I have been lurking around here now in support of some strange issues and have found the information here very very helpful thankyou.

My 04 1.9 diesel has developed overnight a very strange fault ... after new years eve ... delayed milenium bug anyone lol

History:-

Took her in for a service to a Skoda dealer ... light service, oil filters etc, and whilst their they completed 3 recalls for me ... very good service thankyou.

4 weeks later and suddenly, having left the car overnight, as I switched the ignition on all the lights on the dashboard flased on once and the outside temperature gauge showed -22.5. Concerned but hopeful I tried to start the car. It started reved to about 1500 rpm and then stopped ... I kept trying after about the 6th or 7th attempt she fired and ran absolutely fine, except the clocks. These are still showing -22.5 at start Milage and computer figures displaying fine but no speedo rev counter temperature fuel gauge or lights and slowly it changes closer to 0. Highest yet is -16.5.

So my questions and plee for help:-

Is this a similar problem to the octy 1 clock issue?

Is it a temperature senser issue ... hence not starting and car going into self protect mode?

With out the clocks working, other than the obvious problems of what speed am I doing and fuel gauge, will it do any damage to the engine / car to continue using?

Thanks for reading and here's hoping you can help

Cheers
