Rear bumper protection

Featured Replies

Having managed to give my car a really good clean inside and out today (ably helped by my 12 year old daughter) I noticed a load of scratches on the top surface of the rear bumper.

We have 2 dogs who travel in the back of the estate and I fitted the Skoda plastic bumper protector to prevent damage but its not really man enough for the job.

Has anyone come across any other trim parts that would protect this area and look good?

Best getting it clear wrapped?

+1 That's what our dealer arranged on our vRS estate before we picked it up. You should be able to get a sign-writer to apply a strip of clear vinyl on the top edge of the bumper.

I use this for the "thing" it just rolls out itd from a company called hatchbag....no marks on mine and he weighs 13 stone

Thought I would share my solution to this problem.

I bought a plastic ABS strip from Rearguard (RG Mouldings) that is applied with 3M tape. Price is roughly £50 and you can get it in black, silver, brushed alloy and carbon effect - latter 3 at a surcharge. Website is www.rearguards.co.uk/

Delivery was less than week to the top of Scotland, nr Inverness.

Here is the finished article which, to me, looks very OEM.

Paul.

I fitted one of those to my dads A3, his car is black anyway.

Skoda do a waterproof boot liner which has a fold out flap which covers the top of the bumper. It's a great product and my 35k boxer jumps in & out without a scratch.

My Springer Spaniel is so impatient and scared of the car that he is out of the boot before you get time to unroll the liner over the bumper.

Paul.

I have seen others that seem to fit better - up to the line between rear bumper and bodywork, so a little higher than in your photo.

As my March 2012 Octavia vRS is Black Magic which would be the best colour of rear bumper protector?  A black that does not match the bodywork seems to be a poor choice.  Silver?  There are also clear vinyl protectors available.

In my opinion the silver guard will look good. Especially if you still have silver neptunes and the chrome grille surround.

Thanks for your opinion.  Yes, my car has silver Neptunes and a chrome grill surround.

A friend commented, "That car is very black".  I can see what he means and I am also considering a silver (double?) pin strip to relieve the all black side view of the bodywork.
