Damn galaxy s3 update

Featured Replies

Just did a software update on my s3, now I've got predictive text but it's trying to guess the next word instead of giving me a choice of symbols ie .,?!.

How do I turn off next word prediction? Annoying me and its only been an hour!

What keyboard are you using?

  • Author

Samsung qwerty, only option available now, sure there was another one before

Go into settings on that Keyboard, Have you got predictive active?

Which upgrade are you on? as iv just done 4.1.2 and mine has stopped auto filling words, Or its having to re learn them :)

Also if you have predicitive turned on then tap it and it will have personalisation data setup, Where the keyboard reads your emails Tweets and FB to learn you language of typing (mannorisims SP?)

Go on the playstore and get the gingerbread keyboard, the prediction is far better than the default S3 one

It was the update was it ??

I used the GB board for ages after getting the S3 couldn't get my haed around the default one(wierd prediction) went back to the ssamsung about two weeks ago thinking just get used to it

I did the update Saturday morning, then noticed that the symbols had gone and a crap choice of words appeared, didn't think of the update lol

The only trouble with the GB board is very rarely it will crash the web browser when chosing a predicted word, but like I say the prediciton is far more sensible

Yup it was the update, noticed it straight after, been though all the settings I can find and there's nowt to change the next word prediction :(

I was happy with the old keyboard damn silly updates not giving options

I cant put up with predictive text.....on a side note :giggle: has anyone else got a stupid slidey out the side of the screen thing after updating it just gets in the way ?

Yeah its multi screen something, you can switch it off in the settings

Ha Ha Side note!

Thats even more funny if you know this feature has been pulled from the note 2

You can switch it off in the Notiforcation Panel (when you pull down the motiforcation bar)

This pannel can now be customised to only include buttons you want (another nice Feature of 4.1.2)

Settings > Display > notification panel

Then just drag and drop the ones you most commonly use.

Mulit Window is allowing you to physiclly multitask on your phone. Nice feature taken from the note 2, Only used it once or twice but can be rather handy.

Anyone having problems with their SD card since updating. Mine occasionally says that the card has invalid files and cant read from it. It does be fine again after a few minutes :wall:

Re the keyboard, you can't beat SwiftKey. Just got a brand new s3 from three after my old one suffered sudden death syndrome. Mind you it was still on ICS so I've spent all day downloading updates :-(

For future reference if anyone finds this thread and doesn't want to bugger about switching keyboards:

Settings

Language and Input

Android Keyboard Settings (slider icon on the right)

Untick "Next word suggestions" at the bottom of the list

Still can't find it lol. I can't see it for looking

I've been experimenting with the latest keyboard just about got the hang of it now, punctuation is a tad awkward but the predictions are pretty cool. Typing on it now as it happens :-)

Mine doesn't have android keyboard, it was just the Samsung one as an option and there's nowt saying next word prediction just predictive text on or off

I'm never that serious :) -how do you like the N4? -I got my S3 long, long before the N4, tbh never had a problem with it -the 4.1 update was a bit of a let down the 4.12 is much better.

Ah, as the others have said, I'm using a Nexus 4. I missed the point in the thread where it became apparent Samsungs had a custom keyboard, I thought they used the normal Android 4.x one (which is where the next word prediction was introduced, it wasn't in <4.x)

em yeh actually really well, my first android device to be fair mate and i'm loving it so far, the customisation is unreal the apps and widgets are really good, battery life is a tad iffy but i'm loving it, i got sooo bored of iOS its stale and nothing to shout about.
