I know the Rapid is a bit out of place at the moment in the range, with the old Fabia and Octavia better value.

But for some reason the more I look at it the more I like it.

I like the Rapid for what it is. I do think it looks good and I don't really understand the Octavia owners criticising it on looks - it very much has an Octavia-type sillhoette but sharper and more modern than the Octavia 2.

Sure, it is not as nicely furnished inside in terms of plastics as the Octavia/Yeti/Superb but IMO it looks a step up from the Fabia/Roomster on the inside which is exaclty where it is supposed to fit in the range.

Skoda UK have overpriced it on list price, but the price you pay is what matters and doing some quick checks on DrivetheDeal you can have an Elegance 1.2TSI with a lot of options for a little over £15k.

That's a good price although drivethedeal don't seem to allow p/ex and you'd struggle surely to find a Skoda dealer to match it?

Drivethedeal are a broker and use normal Skoda dealers for their supply. You might struggle to get most Skoda dealers to match though, I think the ones who do business with Drivethedeal rely on doing large volumes and getting kickbacks from Skoda UK for meeting sales targets rather than making large margins on the actual sale.

I think you could do a part ex but then they might sting you on that. It's all a bit of a dance, but at least DTD show the kind of discounts which are available on list price.

Would shop around far and wide; got some very good cost to change deals myself without having to try DtD.

Would recommend the following people as worth giving a call;

Lee at Preston Motors

Colin at Hortons

Beth at Allams

There's also;

They do P/X and appear to be affiliated with Rainworth Skoda; some Briskodians have posted good feedback but they couldn't price match the deal I eventually secured for our Monte mind, from one of the previous mentioned dealers.

Just checked with a dealer new spec rapid must be factory order then 3 month delivery if lucky

Some of the Greentec models work, some do not, so far as our VED works out:

1.2TSI 85hp - 119g/km down to 114g/km - no point

1.2TSI 105hp - 125g/km down to 116g/km - worthwhile

1.6TDI 105hp - 114g/km down to 104g/km - no point

So long as the VED cut off between £££ and £ is 119g/km then there's no value in the greentec models, compared to their non-greentec counterparts - the extra list price is not compensated for.

Of course, VED could change, but that can't really be a selling point at the moment. Better to be rid of VED and shove it on fuel duty anyway, but that is an axe to grind on another day.
