HOW MUCH!

Featured Replies

Guys one of my keys has broken. Had a quote from Main dealer £175. Nearly dropped dead. I asked him if they were gold plated and he said no???

Any ideas where to get it done cheaper. Being a cheap skate and all that

Just the key part or the remote control?

If you have your SKC code to code your key to the car again, the keys (blank) are usually on Ebay for about £30 brand new - approx £15 to get cut from someone who knows how to cut ignition keys, then someone with VCDS to code it.

You can also retrieve the SKC code from the dash clocks with a bit of know-how if you don't have your SKC code on the little tag (like me).

If the blade is fine then dont bother getting one cut..... just swap the blade over and use the new body. (depending if its a flicky key)

They are not gold plated?! What?!

Im taking the **** bowen :giggle:

What's broken? If its the transponder buy a genuine fob from ebay, swap the internals over and go through the resync process in the manual. It's easy and no SKC code/coding required, it's also cheap.

just out of curiosity could you elaborate or just tell us how to do it ;)

You won't do it yourself. Need software and the right cables. There was someone on here did it for me, but it just confirmed I already knew the code.

VAG Commander I think it is.

The transponders are only a few quid though, from a place on the net but I can't quite recall. They do loads of car stuff

I've done a key from scratch for one lost. 2nd hand key from ebay, new transponder into key, program the alarm/remote (easy), key cut, use SKC via vagcom to program the new transponder, simple.

The lot was about £27

I can retrieve the SKC code with VAGTaco if you are local.

That's what I have.

Saved me a load of cash when getting a second key. Did It all myself.
