Second remote key

Featured Replies

Hi

First post on here! only just got my 51 plate fabia!

I have one remote 'flip' key for the car and would like to buy another so i have a spare. What needs to happen to the new one, is it just as simple as cut the blade and it will work or does it require the car to be coded to the key? can i do this myself?

My current key has a part number which is VW are these interchngable?

A search goes a long way ;)

Go on ebay and look for Key Service, guy called Robert, I've dealt with him before with great results as has Fabdavrav on here. Essentially you need the whole unit, programming the remote is the easy bit. You'd need an immobiliser chip though, he does sell the, but you'd have to have it coded, either with vcds or a dealer, at great cost. I've just done it on my mum's Polo though, if you have the spare key, with something very sharp (but please don't cut your fingers off in the process), separate the key, and you'll see an immobiliser chip. Soak this in nail polish remover for around half an hour, then it should just slip out. Then stick in new key shell with clear nail polish. Much less harmful and easier to deal with than superglue!

Then you just need to get a blade cut :)

Second the above post......^^^^^^^^............................

Also does your flip key just have two buttons on it???????.....................

If so then do you realise that you can get a three button remote from Robert and then you can re-sync it to your car and then have OEM remote boot opening!!!!!!

No VCDS required and the boot opening solenoid is factory fitted as it is the on that opens the boot when you pul the lever down by the drivers seat!

Give Robert an email........need to look at his guides etc .........................he will need to know what the part code on your remote is, and the shape of the buttons on your existing remote.......

I had to do this on the Leon, one of the things they skip apart from giving you a felt battery box, no engine cover, no bonnet lifter is the second key is always a non flip/remote). If you're swapping the fob over nail varnish is Ok but a hot knife works much more quickly.

You can get the blade cut from a photo (eBay seller), buy a VAG remote from eBay, frequency doesn't matter seemingly, my old Octavia II worked on the Leon and the Audi and was different to both, you can also sync the fob yourself (process should be in the manual - it was for the Audi), that leaves the small coil tube, these can now be cloned/written, your local mileage correction/auto electronics specialist should be able to do this for you, if not then call a few of your local key cutters/automotive factors, it's sometimes not an advertised service but they should be able to point you in the right direction. Failing that if you have the SKC then you can get anyone with VCDS to do it from memory and remove any previous keys.

Very helpful chap this seller

Also does a drive in and out service if you're local to him (Torquay, South Devon)

The is the single most important detail for getting a spare key coded to the car, without the SKC the car is never going to run on the new key.

Not true, as I mentioned the existing unit can now be cloned. Either way SKC extraction on a MK1 Fabia is hardly complicated.

Avalon, interested to know how you extract the SKC without the code as I don't have the tag but want to get another key made up to use as a spare (not just to lock/unlock the car).

Any help much appreciated...

Just to say to people that my cheap "ebay" two to three button conversion as per my earlier posts in this thread is still working all OK one year on!! No reliability problems & the remote case looks all ok!

I just wish I had found out about it earlier as being able to pop the boot on it's own & have it auto lock on it's own is really great .....

...thing is I'm still getting used to it as sometimes I unlock the doors to get to the boot & forget the third button......DOH.............. :wall: .......... :giggle: .

Check out the group buy running at the moment by actionman. I'm getting a 3 button bentley style flip key

I recently went to skoda and had a new key. Rinsed my account but i know its deffo gonna work lol

I can extract the SKC because i have equipment designed for that job, which is also my job! :)

If you need a spare key doing i can help as it's what i do for a living. I'm planning a trip over to Lincolnshire on Saturday 25th January if you're interested.

I can supply you with either a manual non remote, a 2 button remote or a 3 button remote. The choice is yours & i always have plenty in stock as i do 150+ VAG remotes per year.

I can also do the remote shown in the link below
