citysafe extensively tested by briskodians at the midlands meet :)

Featured Replies

we tested the citysafe at the midlands meet . NO people or animals were harmed in the making of these videos ;) (appart from trying to kill a tigger) all tests were carried out first with people holding the arms of a jacket, and holding them accross in front of the car !

the system will work if you are accelerating gently (not full throttle) if you have no feet on the pedals, if the clutch is up, OR if the clutch is down... in essance it will always work regardless of what you do with your feet (except full throttle) , up to 19 mph of course... we were doing about 10 mph in these tests !

vid one:

vid 2, my feet!

another one, just for fun, some I was accelrating, some I wasn't some I had clutch up, some clutch down ect ect ..

very good system if you ask me!

Did you try it with your foot resting on the brake pedal enough to activate the brake lights?

yes, and the brake lights activate anyway when not touching the brakes, we checked ;) so you will always have brake lights when it operates!

What a brilliant piece of technology! Also a very brave stand in the way person too. I hope this is rolled out across all cars as it really is a useful piece of kit.

Tested with two people holding a stretched jumper accross the car first !

The test subject isn't brave, he's just mental.

Really impressive technology.

was great fun

nice to know i wasnt mentioned for doing the videos :hi:

did you try and simulate some of the issues, like detecting a oncoming car on a bend as being infront of you

so two cars driving in circles in opposite directions??

the cars are too new for that and we wasnt brave enough

yeah, what copey said, we didn't want to take any risks like getting too close, or someone walking in front from the side, or anything like that...

out of interest though as I was drivivng home, ash was in the passenger seat reading up on it from the manual, and we ended up turning it off because the fog got so bad we had to use fog lights, so we disabled citysafe...

note: to add to the review, I didn't like the fact that once you had disabled it there was no warning light to say it was "off" would have liked to know...

edit: thanks to copey for the vids :p

you would think if it is recomended to turn it off in fog, then activating the fog light would automatically disable the system

the lack of warning to say system is off is a big oversight

I agree it would be better if it had a warning light, but at the end of the day it's not the sort of system where you'd think "nah, I won't bother braking because I have Citysafe" It's a back up for emergency situations, not something to be relied upon. Presume it resets after restarts?

What I meant was, if you are braking a little, does the car think you don't need the Citisafe as the driver is braking, or does it brake even harder on your behalf?

you could say the same about ESP, "i won't worry about chucking the car round a bit cos ESP will stop me doing something stupid" but it has a warning light to say it is off

but having said that ESP is a whole different ball game as far as safety is concern, having experienced it in anger on snowy roads stopping my car from ending up in a barrier it is a fantastic system that does things with the brakes it is impossible to do unless you have 4 brake peddles and 4 feet to work them all seperately at the same time

citysafe is a system to prevent minor shunts in slow moving traffic where it is easy to get distracted, and i have written off my roomster in just the situation citysafe is design to work in, a warning light would be usefull not to say "its off only the stupid human is in control" but as a confirmation if you have turned it off for a reason (fog etc as in the handbook)

both are aids for safety but do not replace sensible driving for the conditions and traffic at the time, but we all make mistakes and that is what both systems are there for

I don't know if it resets when ash drives it again tomorow! t5hats something we just discussed,"will it be on or off now?!" only way to tell is to press the button and see what the dash says! I would assume it will reset as TC does ect....

boss, I think we need a bit more testing to see if it will "assist brake" we were unwilling to go quick enough to really be able to do that situation in the tests we did!if we really braked we would have stopped....... dont know if it would brake harder if you didnt brake enough......

I'm sure I will get the chance to test it more at subsequent meets :)

time to save some big bits of polystyrene me thinks, perhaps a safe way to test the oncoming traffic on bend safely situation??

roll of masking tape to mark out different radius bends (with a bit of string to get an accurate radius)

indeed, we used a jacket held by the sleves with 2 people on the first tests... no possilility of damage! cardboard boxes or polysyrine woul dbe good :)

the bonnet is VERY soft , wouldn't want anything heavy landing on it..... (if you just press your fingers on it it will bend in!)

Hell no ! not with my car ! try it with your own tho ! :D

ŠKODA UK While we have every confidence in our City-Safe system, we don't recommend you try it out on your friends! Nevertheless, great to hear you're happy with your Citigo. Good to have you with us, ŠKODA UK."

I tried it out on one of the mechanics at work, but he kept moving!

Mind you, I was going a bit faster. :D

i can just imagine the insurance claim report

"i had to swerve several times and accelerate to test the citisafe system, by the time i managed to corner my assistant i had exceeded the 19mph for the operation of the system ......."
