help in fife

Featured Replies

hi is anyone in my area (fife) that can help , my 53 plate vrs rear door has spat the dummy out and jammed its self shut on deadlock this happened before and a few taps in the lock area freed it up ,but now nothing i can do will open it and its mot time coming up , i took the car to my local garage who said its impossible to do as he said you cant get the panel off the door while its closed ,i know that some people on here reckon it can be done ,so is there anyone in my area that has done it or know a garage in fife that has , im kinda snookered as ive not got the tools or knowledge to try this job myself ,if i can get the door unlocked i would just disconect power to it and just lock it manually as i need all doors as i have 2 small kids .

Ive done it, its not impossible, just tight.

Tell the garage you went to, to remove the rear seat (part where your arse goes) then un-do all the door card screws as usual, take the door card off, drill out the rivets with taping the window up as a precaution, then you can take the inner panel off and hey presto the inside of the door!

When it happened to me i just f**ked about with the lock until it opened, no technical way of doing it i dont think, well not that i could find, so i done it by guess work!

I would come and do it for you but dont have the time as im moving house etc!

If all else fails hammer and chisel the lock mech off!

see the drill out the rivets bit is that the metal plate behind the door card mate ?

and is it just a case of riviting ikt back on when done ?

Yeh its the metal plate behide the door card, well yeh if you can find the rivets (Expensive from Skoda due to size) and an industrial pop rivetor!

I tapped the hole out with a 8mm tapp and put bolts in with washers then self tapped a screw per hole to make sure! held solid for ages now! no issues of leaking!

I have the same problem with my rear door on my fabia , the door handle on the outside seems like it's broken but the inside feels like its doing something , my mates said it sounds like child lock is in place and due to the outside handle being broken I can open the door at all, what do I do ?
