A/C compressor replacement

Featured Replies

Hi experts, last year I was informed that my A/C compressor on my 2006 56 plate petrol Octavia vRS estate (non climatronic). had failed.

This was mid-summer and all of the recommended (thanks Chrispy. Pete8tch), Sanden PXE16's seemed to be out of stock everywhere, then the summer ended and then the inevitable "Don't need it now that it's gone cold".

The misses and me have just booked a summer holiday in the S of France with the car so was looking at now beating the summer rush for A/C compressor sales.

after Googling for Sanden PXE16 I came across what seems a cracking price through Audi Car parts.

Anybody know if this is safe to buy? I should I guess take a look at the failed unit in my car to see if I can determine any markings.

Many thanks

This isn't a DIY proposition, because it's illegal for you to release any a/c gases still in the system, and I think also to refill it.

Could you take it somewhere for the system to be emptied before hand then take it back for it to be refilled once it's fitted though?

Also you must replace the condensor (or may it's the evaporator) when the compressor has failed in case any bits of broken compressor have entered the system.

Thanks guys! I forgot to mention.. I have a pal with a garage who will be doing the work for me, cheapest he can get a pump through his avenues is £414.

He said if I could source one he would do the labour. Just need to know if it's the correct one.

You could try a local AC specialist, ours went last year, called a local guy who diagnosed, fitted new (sanden) compressor and refilled for £350 all in, could save you a bit off ball ache?....worth a few phone calls I reckon?
