HELP ! Oil back to seriously low in 2 days

Featured Replies

So i got my skoda a few days ago and on the way back the oil warning light came on ...so checked and there was no oil.Filled up and now today no oil again ...and engine warning light on again ...so either a leak or somethings using all the oil ? So i asked the person who had it before and said they have neve had a problem with the oil :/

Ok well lets go through some basics

1. Is the car smoking at all ?

2. Where its been parked is there any oil on the floor?

3. If you look around the engine bay with a torch can you see any oil splattered around?

When you say you filled it with oil im assuming you filled it to the top level on the dipstick?

Might be better if this thread was in the Fabia forum i'll report it to a mod to move it there.

Don't take this the wrong way but you are checking the oil level with the dipstick arn't you and not relying on the warning light?

Its not unheard of for the sensors to be faulty.

If you have a plastic tray under the engine this could be collecting any oil leak so make sure you have a good look with a torch.

Been checking with dipstick and no oil on it at all again ...havent noticed any leaks as drive is basically all mud :/ thinking of just getting a mobile mechanic out tomorrow whilst at work

might be worth putting a dry sheet of cardboard under the engine of the car if you can, that will catch any oil drips so you can see them.

I wouldn't drive it to work if its got no oil in it. What oil did you top it up with?

Totally agree with that, if it's got no oil don't drive it as you risk totally wrecking the engine.

Will put my oil in it and then drive to work ..as last lot lasted 2 days ..

Hi, sounds like you're losing at least 1L within around 2 days! If it's leakage that should be obvious around the engine bay or underneath. If it's burning it that should be evident in what's coming out of the exhaust, grey/blue smoke. Restrictive driving would be sensible until you resolve, but past driving characteristics, servicing & current mileage may play a part. Hope it's nothing too serious, good luck

Havent noticed anything out of exhaust so hope its just a leak :/ cant check in dark as live on farm and cars up the track haha

If its a farm track have you hit the sump on anything hard im guessing the wheels go down into the groves of the track if the previous owner never had any oil issues and cant imagine the ground clearance is that much have you heard a bang while driving down your track where the car has bottomed out?

Hey ...the track isnt that bad ...like a road covered in mud haha ...only thing i can think of is the speed bumps ..theres 4 i have to go over to get to my cousins but theyl car isnt low :/

Ok im just trying to help diagnose the sudden oil loss. What oil did you put in and what quantity? mineral / synthetic viscocity? the wrong stuff can burn off quicker.

I put in 10w/40

Was there a VAG specification code on the can? Something like, say, VAG 503.00.

Was the car serviced/had an oil change, before you bought it?

It's not unheard of for oil filters to be not tightened or even sump plugs loose.

If it's losing that much oil it doesn't matter what spec oil you're putting into it.

I'd get someone to give it a quick check over for you..Good luck. :)

Good thought, and indeed for the camshaft cover bolts to not be properly torqued down and/or the gasket to be broken.

All this stuff is cheap to fix, but can give you high oil consumption.

Cars been checked today ..2 sensors gone ..going to cost £200 ..could save the catalic converter if thats how you spell it ..aslong as it hasnt already gone :/

sounds a bit odd to me, sensors and oil loss??

thought you had it fault scanned and there was nothing wrong? Surprised two sensors weren't picked up by the scan :/ Which two sensors?

These were other problems found ..he found no leaks and no smoke from exhuast ect ...he think its where car was so low on oil the engine has had to suck it all up but after a re-fill should stay now and oil levels getting back to normal

A sensor to do with fuel

Nah i had a sensor go on a 2.0 VW Golf cabriolet and it ****ed oil out. Replaced sensor and it was perfect after. Im guessing there is no plastic sump guard and one of them speed ramps has knocked it. Unless previous owner knew all along and just making out they didn't have an oil problem.

Glad you got it sorted, its not nice to have problems in the first few days of ownership ruins the experience. Fingers crossed everything sorted and its a reliable motor.
