I hope so but if it turns out the catalic convertor had gone or cant be saved might just drive it off a cliff haha

If you know any welders get them cut it open to take all the crap out then weld back to gether as a straight through pipe. Visibly it will still look like a CAT from an MOT perspective so it will still look like you have a CAT fitted but it will give you some extra Horsepower and sound more of a growl when you put your foot down. Im sure it will still pass emissions test. My Clio's all did and they were decat.

These were other problems found ..he found no leaks and no smoke from exhuast ect ...he think its where car was so low on oil the engine has had to suck it all up but after a re-fill should stay now and oil levels getting back to normal

Seriously? A mechanic said that? Doesn't sound very well based on a factual diagnosis.

I'd suggest that you check the oil religiously and regularly over the next couple of days. If it's lost that much oil in two days once, chances are it'll keep doing it. Don't let it get to a stage where the oil light's on. Unless the Fabia's far more advanced than I'm giving it credit for, it's a pressure warning light, not a level warning - if the light's on, chances are damage as a result of low oil pressure has already started to be done.

I'm not clear on when the light was coming on, but it often does double duty on VAG cars; level warning on first switch on and low pressure when the engine's running.

Understood; I'm aware that's the case on some VAG vehicles, but IIRC the 1.4 Fabia of that age was the same 1.4 motor that'd been around in the Polo for years, and I'd hazard a guess that it would be pretty old-tech.

Might be wrong of course; but it's still a bad idea IMHO to wait for a warning light to tell you your oil level is low.

Para 1 - The Fabia has 2 different 1.4l engines; the Polo 8v you reference, and a 16v unit.

Para 2 - Agreed, but in defence of the OP who expects to have to check oil level every 10 miles?

So did the Polo :-P

And I'm not having a go at the OP - merely suggesting that when there is a known potential problem with oil loss, it's worth checking it often, not relying on a warning light, in order to avoid any potential damage.
