I don't think it is base spec, it has wheels listed

Mileage needs clarification - where were these miles done? Motorway or town? If they're all m-way and the bodywork's ok it should be fine.

Is an R reg 98? If so thats about average mileage.12k a year.Sounds like family motoring as opposed to motorway hikes .

If fully seviced with all necessary bits changed as and when should be fine.Oviously be the old shape.You might get a newer octy estate with same spec,engine,bits etc and less miles.

Check the lower front suspension arms - a known failure. I had an A4 110 Tdi Quattro of a similar age which also needed a new turbo and a full cat under the Audi warranty at 50k.

I was very happy with it though at the time and traded it for a 2.5 Tdi Quattro as a result.

Assuming that the cam belt intervals are the same as for the octy , then it's due a change at 120k which won't be cheap
