black side trim is it possible to remove it?

Featured Replies

hi everyone....

pick up our first fabia vrs on Saturday and and like a big kid already buying new bits and pieces for it. anyway we were having a discussion about the car and we decided the one thing that let's this beast down is the black side strips and door handles... now we know it's going to be hard to mess about with the handles but wondered if anyone had removed the strip and knew what was underneath or knew if you could get a colour coded replacement version?

any advice would be great.....

thanks in advance

kirst

Yes you can remove it. I would of removed mine but didn't want to risk finding rust behind it so had mine colour coded.

There's lots of guides about on how to remove them. If I remember right people use fish wire then a toffee wheel brush (something like that lol) to buff it off.

Search is rather useful :)

I removed mine and luckily the paint work was fine underneath.

To get mine off I first heated the strip a bit with a hairdryer then used a strong piece of dental floss to cut the glue, but most people use fish wire. Then afterwards I just used Autoglym tar remover but it took a while. I imagine using a toffee wheel would be far easier.

But I believe the sliver vrs's are the most prone to having bubbly paintwork underneath the strips? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Silver tends to be the common colour for bubbly paintwork unfortunately!

Mines silver and has bubbly paint under them. Can't really notice them unless you look for them

I want to do mine but unfortunately I've got silver and I'm not brave enough :(

I bought a spare set of handles, took less than 30mins to swap them over. Octavia handles are the same, and more available! Paint codes for mk1 octavias should be the same too...
