Recommended tyres for my VRS

Featured Replies

What tyres are you guys running and would you suggest.needing two good ones for the front

Whats your budget for the tyre alone first. bear in mind fitting and balancing a tyre costs approx £12-15 per tyre.

Yoko parada spec2s great in the dry and dont seem to wear quickly .....****e in the wet though:(

we still have the dunlop sport maxx on ours as from new, they are ok and not too expensive

maxxis Z1's...... I will however be having federal RSR's in march when my winters come off... wouldn't reccomend them right now though! :o

not the best recommendation then lol. They are a very old compound/design now though. They have been around for years.

I still havent put my winter alloys on yet. they are sat there waiting but as yet, my tyres havent felt any worse with either the cold or the wet.

@ the OP what sort of driving do you do? Do you push your car, do you do trackdays, do you want massive mileage out of these.....

Which Linglong is it that are on?

& what is on the rears?

Will they not be OK for the weather thats about to come, if you are taking it sensible?

I would not fit the Parada rather than the Lingling unless they are really bad in the cold.

If you are going to change what is on, it looks like best before this weekend.

i dont really have a budget.would pay upto 200 a tyre. The linglongs are complete crap hate them. Iv used pradas, eagle f1's,avaon zz3 in the past.

If your happy t have that much then you could take any of the top tyres on the market.

Id advise going up a size to 215/40R17. this is still within legal limits so is perfectly fine. The Polo GTI and Ibiza Cupra have this size as standard so Skoda only have 205s as a cost saving measure IMO.

With that budget looking at predominantly road going tyres, id be looking at either Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 or Continental Sport Contact 5s.

These are the tyres that now come standard on the likes of the Megane RS, Clio RS, Focus St, Focus RS etc.

I swapped my fronts for some Hankook Ventus V12 Evo. Great in wet and dry, quiet and as a bonus slightly more comfy ride.

Conti 3's standard on my car are good - I would buy them again.

+1* I have the Hankook V12 Evo' also, 215-40-17 all round, not expensive at all..brilliant tyre in all weather conditions and seem to be holding the tread very well!

Vredestein Ultrac Cento; very good in the wet, quieter than Conti's, don't think they will be quite as good in the dry, if ever it is dry.

Excellent value for money, I saved £100 on the pair over the big names.

Ive not tried the new Centro tyres, but I have had the Ultrac Sessantas before an di was very impressed with them. I found them to be on par with the PS2 for wet and dry grip despite being considerably cheaper.

Using Hankook S1 K107 and I'm very very impressed with them.

Decent noise, good wet-grip and excellent dry-grip!

Quite well-priced aswell...

That is a good call,

& available at a decent price in 205/40/17 or 215/40/17

I have just fitted my Bridgestone Potenza RE050A in 215/40/17,

but if the snow comes as forecast i will maybe put on my 16" Winter tyres.

Depends if it lasts and how cold we get.

+1 on the Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2. In my humble opinion, as an all-round performer, it could well be the best summer tyre on the market today.

I replaced the original conti sc 2 with Michelin PS 3. Much better, a little more feel and definately more grip and good handling in the wet.

If you use blackcircles, when you select your tyre/fitter combination, phone the fitter direct. When i had mine replaced back in October, whilst Blackcircles gave a good price (which i paid) when i asked the fitter how much he would of charged for them he worked it and was over £12 a corner cheaper :(

C1FLA,

how are you getting on with the tyres on todays roads, or have you changed them?

george

15 to do a tyre?!? local garages will do all 4 for less than that... geezo! haha!

I got prada spec 2's on Saturday and they were ok today.travel from Blairgowrie to dundee everyday for work so will see how long they last and how they perform in all road conditions

That is a great commute to have to work. & even better for coming home.

Have fun,

george

Couldnt get hold of Sport Contact 2's to replace two fronts so went with Pirelli P Zero Neros. As good if not better than the Contis and a bit cheaper too. If i had money to burn would have stuck a set on the rear too

Replaced the Conti 2s as they just got so hot and bothered the were spoiling the car.

Changed to Michelin Pilot Sport 3s, nitrogen filled, which have been much better.

Currently have Nexus Winguards on which are OK for this time of year, V rated as well and only £54 for openeo tyres.

One cannot get Michelin Super Sports in 17 inch so PS3s it the best IMO though I hear CS5 is pretty good but until Continental win a big Endurance race I will stick with MIchelins.
