Hi, I've been seeing these gadgets are quite a hot topic of recently.

Was very tempted by the BlackVue GB twice but theres this thing on the back of my mind telling me its hard to justify the price tag.

Aside from the fact Im not of wealth at the moment I wouldn't like to jump in the deep end first without trying the el cheapo versions first to justify at least the concept of it.

Quite happily share my views but its a tad boring so we'll get on with the topic -

OK, so anyone tried any before?

Found a good website:

This wide screen issue. Im sure you could mount one of those wide screen phone camera attachments to the car DVR to make it more wide screen... Im sure I'll have a go at it in a later date when I bought one to toy around with.

Hi

If you have a Android phone try "Daily Roads Voyager" App (free)

Radiotwo

I use "witness" on the iphone, brilliant if you can mount your phone correctly, saves the £100's of pounds worth of equipment if you have journeys of less than 3 hours or so... (iphone wont charge with the app, and thats about your battery life with charger in) e.g. edit: 0.69p

Pretty sure witness is on or coming soon to android too.

Was tested on 5th gear. Might be on YouTube

I suppose low light will be when the dearer Blackvue will earn it's money.

I want to try avoid phone apps, would be interesting if it has loop recording though. I'm more worried about card corruption then data loss in card or worse the phone goes kaput on me in the time of need while on the road (had that happen before, was not a fun day). I have a 16gb uhc1 card in the phone atm (soon to be upgraded to 64gb), wont be too happy if that goes kaput.

It seems like the minimum required is HD with 5mb CMOS sensor. but like Aspman says, low light conditions are a bit poo to say the least for budget options. Then again I tend to find idiots daytime rather than night-time.

Semi decent non GPS options are between $60-100, GPS/G sensors are from $120-300.. Still not the £30-50 I was expecting :bandit:...
