vRS Cooling Fan Question?

Featured Replies

After some help and advice please...

When switching engine off yesterday on my Octy vRS the cooling fan started up. The engine was at normal temperature and had only been driving slowly up to the point of stopping and hence don't believe there was any reason for the fan to come on. I waited about 5 minutes for the fan to go off but continued to whir away. I decided to get back in car, restart engine and then switch off again. This time the fan stopped.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal or experienced similar? Is there a cool-down process on the engine which activates the fan?

The car has only done 3000miles since new in October so if this is a potential problem would like to get it looked at whilst under warranty.

Thanks for any help on this.

Normal it is a regen of DPF it creates a lot of heat and normally you would not notice it driving along but if you stop during it the fans will continue until its cool. Starting the engine again and turning off will have aborted the regen and is not the thing to do. This would normally be accompanied by a slight burning smell at exhaust end. I would advise next time to just let it do its thing. This is a question that if you use the search function you will find many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many ( not that many) times has been asked. Same with all of us you panic when your new car does something unexpected like this, I would have too only while waiting for mine to be delivered I read about it by chance on here and knew to expect it. :whew:

This thread might help explain the process if you want to see more (should be covered in owners manual too):

I've had this arounf the 700 miles mark. Seems its an aborted regen. As FUBAR says, plenty threads about it
