Cooling Fan on Blackline

Featured Replies

Stopped in my drive after a 14 mile drive home late last night. Just as i switched off the engine i heard the rad fans come on and stay on after i took the key out. Thought it was strange as it was hardly summer and i had been driving on dual carriageway at a leisurely pace. I popped the bonnet and the engine didn't even feel hot! The fans stayed on for 7 or 8 mins until i re inserted the key and started the engine again then the fans stopped.

Has anyone else encountered this or is this normal?

unreal. Mine had the same burning smell.. Surely not a DPF regen already? The car isn't even at 500 miles!

If I'd had a choice I'd have took petrol. Only do 6k a year. Spec etc too good to pass.

Yep sounds like dpf regenerating. I wouldn't worry about it.

I do find premium fuels (v power/ultimate) seem to reduce the need for it to regenerate.

Mate ive got both you made the right choice i only do about 6k a year also but im getting 26mpg in my

petrol and to do that im driving really cautiously which defeats the point of the VRS. i Jump in the diesel

and drive it like its meant to be driven with a smile on my face and still get 40 - 45mpg. Its a no brainer.

plus the tax is half.

26??.. dear oh dear i can easily get 30+ driving around town high 20's when the foots down permanently and 40+ on a long motorway journey.

Yeah trouble is its only a couple of miles drive for me to work so by the time the engine gets warm im switching it off to get out the car. I have also got 40+ out of it but when going to france or cornwall on holiday etc very long drives. About town i doubt if your honest with yourself you get much over 30mpg. For me the diesel works out double fuel efficiency.

Cars need wearing in to get the better higher mileage. Mine was only doing around 29 until I got to 30,000 miles, now it's more regularly mid to high 30's on a averag run, into the 40's over longer distances.

Phew. I was banking on 30+ for mine. Was panicking at the mention of 26

Ironically mine came on tonight as I pulled up at home with 760 miles on it. Just took it for a spin up the local A roads for 15 mins instead of letting it sit whirring on the driveway. Gave me something to do anyway :)

Nice and quiet when I got back

I had already turned the engine off when i furst noticed it, otherwise i would have done the same... No light tho...

The DPF regens approx. every 600 miles whether it needs it or not.

The DPF light only comes on after several failed regens when the filter reaches a certain level of soot content.

Had this today after a leisurely 17 mile drive home from work. was really loud and not what the neighbours wanted to hear at 7am. At least reading this thread has reassured me my car is not about to blow up

I love it when someone experiences a common issue and uses the search function. Bravo good sir! Best bit is you don't have to start a new topic and wait anxiously for a reply, you instantly know it's all normal and can feel relieved.

Yes, nice to see! There's a user guide on skodas website for the dpf, seperate ones for pd and cr engines. The giveaway on the cr is an increase in tick over to circa 1000 rpm while your driving with no lights showing. The guide recommends you carry on driving at a constant speed if possible and once it's completed the regen the tickover goes back to normal. If you can't and switch off the engine you get the fans and hot smell, but I've had this twice now in 2700 miles and it sorts itself out and completes the regen normally on the next trip. You just need to avoid having multiple incomplete regens. It's nothing to worry about.

Tickover at 10000 rpm??

Might be fun but engine wouldnt last long.

Ah.... Daft phone pilot error! Should be 1000rpm

You must drive like me Grizzle or do I drive like you

Done 8500 miles in mine, never noticed any regens at all! 25 mile commute each way must help it along. Sure I'll freak when it done a regen all the same! Or maybe it's doing the 'passive regen' during the commute.

I think you can check on VCDS how many it has run etc?
