No sound on retro-fit Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I wonder if anybody might be able to advise.

I have a Yeti (2011 build) and it has the factory fitted 12 speaker system. I have recently fitted a columbus system (from a "reputable" seller on ebay!) and I have no sound.

Everything else on the unit appears to be working correctly. It links up with the maxidot and the steering wheel controls, bluetooth streaming from my iphone appears to be working as the track info is displayed - but no sound at all. :'(

I read previous threads on the site and gathered that there is probably an issue between the columbus and the 12 speaker set up. With that in mind, I spent some time with an extremely helpful member armed with his VCDS. He is satisfied that all the coding is now properly set up, so the Columbus knows about the speaker system, but this hasn't resolved the issue.

I have tried disconnecting the amplifier under the passenger seat and reconnecting, and we have performed a hard reset of the Columbus but we can't get the sound working at all.

As soon as I removed the Columbus and refitted the previous unit, which is an Amundsen, the sound is working perfectly on that unit!

Does anybody have any tips or advice as to what else I can try?

Many thanks.

If the columbus has come from a car with the factory sound system that is why

VCDS coding required to sort it

It's very tricky to set up the sound pack on these as there is lots of different options.

I have VCDS and time this week FOC of course

Pm sent :-)

Now resolved! Many thanks to Marso for his time, expertise and patience. A true gentleman.

It seems a few people have struggled with getting sound on a retro-fitted Columbus with the 12 speaker system.

What seemed to resolve it was changing the long coding from Skoda Sound System CAN DSP to VW Sound System BAP DSP.

Erm, obvious really...

Indeed but this is only for the cars like yours that have the Amundsen sat nav fitted in the factory :-)
