Remote locking key fob died

Featured Replies

2003 Octavia tdi - 110hp

My main key fob decided to repurpose itself today so now will not perform it's one and only purpose in life - to operate the remote central locking.

I have a spare key so I know it's the fob. Even though the light still flashes, and despite a new battery it still refuses to work.

My question is this, if I buy a new fob can it be programmed in the car or is it a dealer job ?

If the former then I may be tempted to replace it, if not then I think I'll live with it as in France where I live the main dealers skin you alive for such things and would probably refuse to programme a fob or key which they hadn't sold me in anyway.

To be fair to the fob, it also houses the key and the transponder, so it's only failed on one of it's three purposes ;) . It could be that it needs to be recoded in the ignition? Not even 50% that taht's your prob, but it could be. Maybe search the Octy forums for key fob recode?

Hi , had same problem.

I got a key fob from ebay for a tenner, then..

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave working key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key.

3. Using the remote control on second key press the Unlock button once

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.

5.Unlock manually with second key, remove key from ignition, close door, try new key.If fob was ok, remote should work.

Good luck.

Also try this. Fit new batteries. Insert key into ignition switch on ignition the press both buttons at the same time. Cured mine.
