Octavia Central locking doing weird things.

Featured Replies

I bought an Octy MK1 SDi for £250 and am curious to know why the central locking seems to do whatever it likes.

Sometimes when you close one of the front doors it will lock itself, or just one door, or all the doors but one.

Then when you're driving along the locks will start chuntering away to themselves, sounds like they are trying to open repeatedly about 4 or 5 times then failing and finally locking all the doors at once.

Sometimes (maybe every time, I've not noticed) there is a click from the relays under the dash which you hear just before all the locks close.

My MK4 golf has had door lock issues before, as has my GF's Fabia, but not this particular issue.

Is there any way of tracking down the fault to a particular door or is this likely to be something else?

Thanks, Dave.

Have a look under the carpet the passenger rear wheel arch to see if the loom has got wet. Often the rear wash pipe leaks.

water ingress into the loom where the loom passes between the drivers door and the car would be my guess - suspect broken cables and/or failed insulation on some of the wires.
