How much (estimated) would you get from breaking a Fabia

Featured Replies

I'm not going to list the full spec as this isn't a sales thread and I'm not a current Freedom member. But I'm pig sick of my job, having no luck applying for stuff at my current salary range, so it's looking increasingly likely that I'm going to have to accept a drop in salary meaning I need to ditch the personal loan I currently have on my Fabia. The mods won't add much value and it's not the best cosmetically so I reckon my chances of selling whole for a good price at this moment in time are slim, so I'm considering breaking it. It's a vRS, hybrid, coilovers, LSD, bigger brakes. If anyone's done similar recently then I'd be interested to hear how much you actually made from it.

I think you could make quite a bit being its got a fair few mods on it! Take a look on how popular that thread in the F/S section is at the moment with the Fabia being broken.

People are always after bits, so you'd make a fair amount of money.

The only problem I have with reading threads is that in general you only get an idea of what people want for something. For example there's a black hybrid vRS on there with similar milage to mine but in better condition cosmetically for £4500. But I'm pretty sure it'll actually go for a lot less. It's the same with parts, there's an 02M box with LSD up for sale for a grand, but I'm pretty sure that for that money you can just about LSD your own 'box which you know the behaviour of so it's almost certain that that's going to get haggled down a lot. I'm curious as to how much people actually have in their pockets at the end of the exercise, all timewasters/hagglers taken into account :)

Mines the one that's up for 4.5k - If it doesn't sell for that or very close I'll break it!

I have had a lot of interest so far though!

I worked it out that to put it back to standard I could pull almost 2k out of it... But I thought I would try and sell it as is before I go down that route.

its up for 1k as its a full 6 speed conversion for an octavia ;-) so has the modified brackets shaft etc and will go for no less than 900 and the box was fully rebuilt with new syncros 20k ago ;-)

but parts market is crap and not alot sells for what you want!! if you can sit on parts for the next 6 months or so you will make money!!

Aye, I was trying to avoid names so as not to be singling people out ;) I missed the fact it was a 6 speed conversion for an Octavia, I just saw that it was an 02M with shafts etc which would be present on an 02M-equipped car anyway. If it's something unique then fair enough! I've no doubt that I'd have quite a lot of interest in the car, but interest doesn't equate to sales which is why I'm interested in the experiences of someone who's actually done it and broken their car. Sitting on the parts is an option, but it's my only car so rather than sitting on a pile of parts I'd have to sit on a full car and keep it until such time I could start breaking, which makes things a bit trickier.

from experience( broke many cars ) make a list of the expensive parts and try and sell them first and until all the expensive bits godont sell the small bits !!!

if you can sit on parts you can hold out a bit more for the parts as you WILL get lots of silly offers !!!

ebay is king things like airbags will sell at some point and can fetch good money !!

always take a 50% deposit non refundable as you will get lots of people saying they want it then never paying !!

always do recorded delivery or collection only !!

p,s join freedom or you wont be able to sell anything and this thread will be pulled very soon

Yeah, my Freedom membership has expired (I didn't realise till recently) so I need to get it sorted. That's why I've been as vague as I can and not listed specific parts just so it hopefully stays around long enough for me to work out whether it's worth doing or whether I should just keep hold of it and just try to pay the loan off ASAP :) I'm tempted to keep it and fix the little niggly bits that need doing but would just possibly keep me in my job for longer than I'd like so I can use the extra salary to knock everything on the head.

Obviously expensive stuff would be first, it's just unfortunate that it's also the stuff that's a total ballache (turbos, gearboxes, etc), why can't an ashtray be worth four figures, would be much easier! :D

If you have a garage or somewhere to store everything then its not to bad but you will be amazed how much stuff you end up with when you start stripping it,

As said above try and sell big stuff first then your not stuck with it, never broken a skoda but broke a couple of others and still have odd bits lying about

go for it :) if youve got a garage to break the car in it could be good fun / a challenge and if nothing else you would get a great appreciation / knowledge of how a car is built / put together. plus im one of 'those people' always looking for bits for a fabia lol

Do you have leather interior?

No garage of my own, although I could come to an arrangement with my mate for use of his double garage then at some point once most parts are sold I guess I'd try and blag the local breakers yard into coming to pick up the remainder somehow. They could weigh it in, flog any last bits, recycle, whatever.

Metal yard would just pay the scrap weight of it. Perhaps £50 for the bare chassis.

PS: Join freedom sooner rather than later if you plan to go down this road. ;)
