can you..... to increase air to intercooler??

Featured Replies

just a passing thought, not really thought to much into it but, if the intercooler is behind the drivers side fog light, cant you cut away the plastic inbetween the slats which are around the light to increase cold air to the intercooler?

Probably - only problem there being how low down it is - you'd probably get a lot of debris on the IC??

But a pikey style protective mesh would maybe solve that?

Yep :D If you wanted to be a little subtler you could remove the fog light and create a channel which would be a bit easier to undo should you want to sell the car in the future ;)

Ooh, me! Me! I know the answer to this one! ;)

When I got my Furby, the rubber funnel thing that channels the air into the IC wasn't seated quite right and so was visible behind the slats around the fog light. I found that the slats are on an independent bit of plastic that clips into the bumper, and so if you want to, you can remove it and hack to your heart's content and (probably) get just a replacement slat unit thingy from you dealer which you can clip back in when you come to sell.

BUT it does also mean that the amount of air getting to the IC may be limited by the dimensions of the funnel behind the slats, in which case you may need to modify that too in order to get any more air through the IC...

The funnel behind the slats is the same size as the exposed area of the intercooler.

I trimmed away the slats which are outboard of the foglight on my vRS and found a slight but measurable improvement in airflow. Removing the grille altogether was better, though.

Whilst loose chippings and debris might be a problem now that we're in the tar-spraying season, all I've ever found in there is dead insects!

i have just noticed that there is already cut out slats on the drivers side fog! had the car 6 months and only just noticed that! its different than the passanger side.

What about feeding your air-con at full blast back through to your air intake...?

I know another member on here, sprayed ice cold water on his intercooler with a water gun just before doing 1/8th mile sprints at Modded Nats

Biggest improvement is to allow the air to get OUT again - i.e. hot air,

Pikey mod ;)

The second part (known Pikey mod II  ) has basically the same thing done as in this thread, i.e. remove the slats.

I'm tempted to suggest a mesh for both in & out as it's cheap, easy to fit, and pretty effective both airflow-increase wise and stopping rocks from getting in.

Removing the front fog sure makes a bigger hole so more air, but the real problem is the hot air not being able to go anywhere post-intercooler. I'd sort that one first ;)
