hi! a quetion about my octavia sdi

Featured Replies

heya , I have a 2002 Octavia sdi - when taking the plastic cover off today to change the oil filter , the foam under the cover sort of fell apart.

can a suitable replacement be bought and if so , can anyone recommend where!

thanks in advance

to be honest i just did away with it

The foam does have a VAG part number, but it is there more as a sound deadening agent than anything else. Mine is looking a little rough around the edges, especially around the front edge where it has a bit of lip which hangs down over the injectors.

I took the cover off and left it in the shed for about 5 years. All it really does is make it difficult to see the engine, didn't seem to make any difference to the noise on my old car.

so if its not anything special heat resistant wise , then any 1/8th foam will suffice?

thank you for the replies all.

It's just sound deadening foam....may not be worth replacing it

sadly mine has done a few miles - 265987 and rising! so anything to help quieten her is good

I can't remember the name, but there used to be a company advertised in the back pages of the DIY car mags (think Practical Motorist, Practical Classics and similar titles) that sold sound deadening kits, and materials by length, so could probably supply the right sort of fire retardant foam if they still exist.
